Dennis Kucinich Issues Scathing Attack of AARP

Dennis Kucinich was excluded from the AARP Presidential debate, and he has a pretty good idea why that happened. It has to do with health care coverage. Congressman Kucinich called out the AARP and said they helped "deal a deadly blow to medicare". He went on to say that the organization hosting a Presidential debate "is like having Haliburton or Blackwater sponsor a Presidential forum on doing away with no-bid government contracts to private contractors or an oil company sponsoring a forum on reducing the world's dependence on oil."
Here is the full statement from the only person running for the White House who is smart enough to know that American needs a single payer healthcare system:
"AARP, the sponsor of tonight's Presidential debate on health care reform, was instrumental in the passage of Medicare Part D legislation which took price controls off what pharmaceutical companies charge Medicare. It ensured big profits for the industry and, at the same time, dealt Medicare a crippling financial blow. That action led to massive cancellations of AARP memberships by senior citizens.
Ohio Payday Lenders are Much Worse than Tony Soprano
Ohio Coalition for Responsible Lending released a study yesterday which exposed the practice of payday lending yesterday. They want to lower payday loan interest from 391% to 36%. My question is where were the politicians as this plagued the state? Didn't they drive through neighborhoods like Cleveland and think to themselves "why is there a payday loan place popping up on every street corner". I think we all knew. They were making a lot of money. 391% on any investment seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Here is one example that they put on their website:
Payday lenders market their loans as short-term help for people in crisis. Data revealed, however, that only 1% of payday borrowers pay off their original loan in the standard two-week cycle. In fact, loans are deliberately structured to require borrowers to continue the cycle. For example, Judy, a recently divorced mother of two, took out a $300 loan that cost $45 in fees every two weeks. This became a $690 monthly payment which took nearly two years to finally pay off. This practice is the very foundation of the payday lending business model.
Whooping Cough Scare at Metro Hospital

WTAM has reported that Metro Hospital that an employee at Metro Health has been inflicted with whooping cough. Hospital officials plan on notifying anyone who may have come in contact with the employee in a 21 day period.
The employee has been treated and is recovering. Whooping cough, know scientifically as pertussis, affects as many as 50 million people worldwide a year and 300,000 of those die from the disease.
Pranksters Strike at Cavs' New Practice Facility
Danny Ferry, the Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager, was horrified when he walked into the Cavs new practice facility that opened Wednesday in Independence, Ohio. Upon entering his new office, he discovered, to his shock, that one of the walls had been painted Carolina blue with a massive North Carolina Tar Heels logo on the wall and on a window facing the court. You just don't do that to an alumni of Duke University, the Tar Heels' arch rivals.
Coach Mike Brown's office was also hit by the pranksters, who painted part of his a salmon pink color. We're not sure what the insinuation was here with the pink though...
Single-Bar Facemask Makes Final Stop in Cleveland
If you know your history of the National Football League, you know that Paul Brown was the inventor of the facemask when his star quarterback sustained a nasty facial injury and Brown, seeing a piece of spare plastic in Browns trainers bag, attached it to Graham's leather helmet. The single-bar facemask would make history and become standard practice in the NFL, giving way to the more modern facemask of today's game.
The single-bar facemask has actually gone out of circulation in the NFL nowadays. Like NHL players without helmets, and MLB batters who didn't wear flaps on the earpiece, the NFL has grandfathered the old facemask but no one in league wears it. Not until the Browns signed Scott Player as an emergency punter in case the injured Dave Zastudil (oblique) cannot perform his punting duties on Sunday.
Cleveland Orchestra Opens 2007-2008 Season Tomorrow

Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra open the 2007-08 Severance Hall season with Tchaikovsky’s final work, the compelling Sixth Symphony -- this final masterpiece is filled with lyrical warmth and brooding, soulful melodies. The concert begins with a spirited Mozart symphony juxtaposed with the American premiere of a passionate work by German composer Matthias Pintscher.
"Jacobs Field" Days Coming to an End for Cleveland Indians

The next time you visit the home of the Cleveland Indians, Jacobs Field, may be your last. The Indians and IMG are teaming up to sell the naming rights that have expired. The home of the Tribe, for a brief time was called "Indians Park at Gateway", until then-owner Dick Jacobs bought naming rights.
"Selecting IMG was an easy decision for us as we seek a naming rights partner for our ballpark," said Cleveland Indians President Paul Dolan. "IMG will allow us the opportunity not only to partner with another home-town team, but also expand our naming rights search due to the stature and credibility IMG has earned nationally and worldwide in the sports and entertainment business industry."
The name "Jacobs Field" expired at the end of last season. The Indians picking today to seek naming rights seems like a wise, tactical move. The team is primed to make the playoffs for the first time in 6 years.
Andy Pierce, IMG's Senior Corporate Vice President, Managing Director Consulting, added: "With our long ties to the Cleveland area, IMG is looking forward to working side-by-side with the Indians organization to identify and secure a naming rights partner for Jacobs Field that will not only benefit the entire Cleveland and northeast Ohio community, but further grow the team's success as one of baseball's most-recognized brands."
