Pennsylvania University Now Offers Plan B Emergency Contraceptive Pill in a Vending Machine
By Leader Staff. Published on 02/07/2012 - 9:49pm
A Pennsylvania university is causing quite a commotion after it announced that it will offer the Plan B emergency contraceptive pill at a vending machine in its health center.
Shippensburg University will offer the pill for $25 in a machine located in a private room in the health center. The pill is only legal for those over 17-years-old, but the school determined that all of is 8,300 are over that age.
University spokesman Peter Gigliotti says that anyone can't just walk in from the street and purchase the pills:
"The machine is in a private room in our health center, and the health center is only accessible by students. In addition, no one can walk in off the street and go into the health center. Students proceed to a check-in desk located in the lobby and after checking in are granted access to the treatment area."
Since the school doesn't have any students aged 17 or younger, they're safe for now. But should any younger students enroll in the future, they may legally be required to remove the vending machines. As many other larger universities and colleges across the country do have younger students, Shippensburg's vending machine policy couldn't be perfectly duplicated everywhere.
Break-ups Via Facebook & Text Message are on the Rise
By Leader Staff. Published on 11/15/2011 - 11:16am
Using the Internet or a mobile phone to end a relationship is decidedly a cold-hearted move, but it's one that more and more people are beginning to make when they've lost that loving feeling. According to a poll conducted by Chicago-based research firm Lab42, 33 percent admitted to breaking up using text message, email or Facebook.
40 percent of those polled also said that they wouldn't have any issues with using technology to break it off with a romantic partner.
550 social media users participated in the poll, so the sampling wasn't quite representative or scientific, but the results do give insight into how the Internet is changing love lives. Those polled were all over 18, with 41 percent being single, 24 percent in a relationship, and 24 percent being married.
Breaking up on Facebook or by text is seen as a less messy way of ending things, but plenty of people still find it to be quite rude and weak.
Welsh Man Says Stroke Turned Him Gay
By Leader Staff. Published on 11/09/2011 - 9:58am
We have heard of many cases of stroke patients experiencing changes in personality and behavior after suffering a stroke, but turning gay is most definitely a new one. And that's what Chris Birch, a 26-year-old Welsh man, says happened to him after suffering a stroke during a freak accident.
Birch was a straight, 266-pound bank worker that enjoyed sports, girls and alcohol. He was engaged to his girlfriend before the stroke. These days, his life is dramatically different - he's 154-pounds, works as a hairdresser and lives with his 19-year-old boyfriend above his salon.
According to the Daily Mail, Birch was showing off to friends at a gym by doing a back flip. Unfortunately, he broke his neck and suffered a stroke. He was then rushed to the hospital, while his girlfriend and family waited for him to regain consciousness.
Birch recalls:
“I was gay when I woke up and I still am. It sounds strange, but when I came around, I immediately felt different. I wasn’t interested in women anymore. I was definitely gay.”
Birch said that prior to the accident, he never experienced any gay inclinations, but the change was immediate after the accident. Birch described:

According to the results of a new study, women in their 40s are more likely to have sex on a first date than women who are in their 20s.
A report published in this month's issue of Men's Health revealed that 17 percent of women in their 20s would go all the way with someone they only just started dating. In contract, 29 percent of women in their 40s would be up for having sex with their new date.
This, of course, applies to American women. It's likely to be different in other areas of the world.

Average Couple Has Sex 104 Times Before Getting Pregnant
By Leader Staff. Published on 08/16/2010 - 1:59pm
According to the results of a new study out of England, the average couple has sex 104 times before getting pregnant. The study of more than 3,000 mothers was conducted by First Response.
The study found that women took six months on average to conceive their first child, with couples having sex about four times a week while they were trying. Two-thirds of women got pregnant more quickly than they expected, and one in 10 women were so eager to conceive that they called their partner home from work to have sex while they were ovulating.
One-quarter of women, however, said sex became "boring" when trying to conceive and 11 percent of men complained about the amount of sex their partner demanded and admitted to feeling "completely used."
The survey also showed that one in 10 women told their parents before their partner that they were expecting a child.
First Response spokesman Dr. Mike Smith said:
"Having sex 104 times before falling pregnant does sound rather a lot, but as they say, practice makes perfect. Trying for a baby is a very exciting time for a couple, and many try to have sex at every opportunity in order to get pregnant."
Low IQ Women More Likely to Go After Rich Men
By Leader Staff. Published on 06/21/2010 - 2:19pm
According to the results of a new study, women with lower IQs are more likely to go after rich guys than are smarter women. Experts say that these results don't necessarily mean that dumb women are naturally greedy, but rather, that they may instinctively be trying to line up financial security for their future kids.
Dr. Christine Stanik, the researcher behind the study at the University of Michigan, said that it is "only natural" for poorly educated females with low job prospects to seek out wealthy men. She continued, stating:
“In ancient times, women evolved an attraction to men with wealth because they knew such a mate could improve the chances of their offspring’s survival. It is a very strong gut feeling that is hard to shake off, especially when a woman does not have her own career, which would give her financial independence.”
The study also revealed that intelligent women who are independently wealthy are more likely than the not-so-bright ones to have a short-term affair, a phenomenon that Stanik says is due to their heightened confidence.
FDA Panel Endorses New Emergency Contraceptive Pill That Works for Up to Five Days
By Leader Staff. Published on 06/18/2010 - 9:52am
On Thursday, a panel of experts voted to endorse a new morning-after pill that can protect against pregnancy for up to five days after sex. The drug is already sold in Europe under the name ellaOne, and studies have shown that it prevents pregnancy longer than Plan B, which is only effective for up to three days after sex.
Studies also show that ellaOne is also more consistently effective at preventing pregnancy. A study showed that women who take Plan B have 2.8% chance of getting pregnant, while those who take ellaOne have just a 1.8% chance.
For those in the anti-abortion corner, however, ellaOne is just too close to the abortion pill. Some claim that the chemical composition of the drug is too similar to Mifeprex, which can be taken up to 50 days into pregnancy. Dr. Donna Harrison, president of the American Associaton of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists said:
"This is a thinly veiled attempt to get an abortion drug over-the-counter,"
Harrison makes the argument that because the pill can stop pregnancies days after the fertilization of an egg, it is not so much an emergency contraceptive device as it is a tool for abortion.
Dating Options for the Modern Seeker
By Cleveland Leade.... Published on 05/19/2010 - 12:21pm
The dating process is one full of excitement and nervous anxiety - does he like me? Am I doing everything right? How do I really feel about her? Dating is full of questions, passions, dreams and enchantment; it helps you become intimately familiar with what you like and need out of a relationship and sometimes even what you don't want or need! When you learn about other people in such a personal way, you also learn a lot about yourself in the process. This can be a fantastic time of self-exploration and a purely magical time when you meet that special person to call yours forever!
Of course, the dating process isn't the same - like many other things in our lives, technology has pushed dating into a new frontier. While the days of traditional courting may be gone, the spark and romance of dating is far from extinguished. Some couples meet each other through common everyday experiences - perhaps you've struck up a conversation at school or work with someone who intrigued you, or maybe you were even set up by a friend with someone who is "perfect for you" (whether or not that might be true!).
