Honda Unveils Acura NSX Supercar Which Will Be Built in Ohio
By Eugene McCormick. Published on 01/09/2012 - 5:33pm
On Monday, Honda revealed the new Acura NSX supercar at the North American international Auto Show. The mid-engine supercar will also be built and developed in the state of Ohio.
Rather than a large V-8 or V-10, the Acura NSX will be built so light and agile that a V-6 engine will provide the vehicle with more than enough power, and as an added bonus will a hybrid fuel system that have a fuel economy that matches the likes of Ferrari.
The car won't hit the market for about three years, but will feature a number of technological advances, including multiple electric motors that have been configured to enhance the performance of the all-wheel drive system. They will be independently controlled by the vehicle's computer, and will be able to send more power to the outside wheels during tight turns, which will make the car even more nimble. Honda refers to this as the Sport Hybrid (SH-AWD) All Wheel Drive system.
There hasn't yet been any announcement made about the pricing. The original NSX, however, cost $90,000 when it was produced from 1990 to 2005, so that gives a general idea of where pricing may fall.
Honda has long built Civic and other models in Marysville, Ohio.

Lamborghini Unveils New Aventador Supercar at Geneva Auto Show
By Leader Staff. Published on 03/02/2011 - 3:00pm
After plenty of teasing and online leaks, Lamborghini officially unveiled its new Aventador super sports car at the Geneva Auto Show today. The Aventador is a replacement for their top-of-the-line V12 Murcielago.
The Aventador keeps the brand's signature scissor doors, and features a visually stunning design, but doesn't quite advance the Lamborghini style as much as previous designs have.
The vehicle's overall design theme sticks to the fighter jet-inspired limited edition Reventon from 2008, and features nearly the identical front end of the Gallardos and outgoing Murcie.
The car features a price tag of $379,000, with a 12-cylinder engine with 700hp, 8,250 rpm and 509 lb-ft of torque. This makes for a claimed 2.9 second 0 to 100km/h. The Aventador's top speed is reported as 350km/h, with the new TFT-spedometer showing up to 370km/h. The 6.5-liter unit is Lamborghini's sixth generation V-12, and executives tout that it is 20 percent more fuel efficient despite making eight percent more power.
Ford Denies Rumors That it is Planning a Ford Explorer SHO
By Leader Staff. Published on 02/22/2011 - 4:47pm
Image: The Explorer SHO was accidentally listed on Ford's website today.
Earlier today, Ford's consumer website listed an Explorer SHO among other EcoBoosted models. However, Ford now confirms that it is not working a high-performance variant of its latest crossover.
Currently, the Explorer is being sold with a 3.5-liter V-6 making 290 hp and 255lb.-ft. Ford is also prepping to launch a version of the Explorer with an EcoBoost-branded 2.0-lister turbo four, which will make 237 hp and 250lb.-ft.
Ford says that the EcoBoost Explorer is what accidentally led to the listing of an Explorer SHO on the site. The company does not have any plans for a variant with the company's 355 hp, 3.5-liter turbo six.
They didn't rule out the possibility for the future, but based on their statements, it's not something they're considering any time soon.

Ferrari Four Concept Unveiled Featuring 4 Seats and 4-Wheel Drive
By Julie Kent. Published on 01/21/2011 - 8:57am
Ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show to be held during the first week of March, Ferrari has officially unveiled the new Four concept car. It's Ferrari's first four-wheel-drive model. The new car with the large, spacious rear will replace Ferrari's 612 Scaglietti flagship. The Ferrari has become a family car with this latest addition.
The FF features the automakers first ever four-wheel drive system, which they claim weighs 50 percent less than a conventional four-wheel drive system, maintaining a rear-biased weight distribution (53 percent over the rear axle). The 4RM technology is completely integrated with the FF's electronic dynamic control systems, and delivers performance on all terrains and in all conditions with a continuous predictive torque distribution to all four wheels.
Powering the FF is a 6.3-liter V12 direct injection engine with 651bhp (at 8000 rpm) and 504 lb-ft of torque. That means the 3,946 lb. FF can go from 0 to 62 MPH in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 208 MPH.
The car also features the most recent development in carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo, and is equipped with the latest magnetorheological damping system (SCM3).

GM: Chevy Volt Passed Winter Driving Test
By Julie Kent. Published on 01/20/2011 - 11:30am
While Alaska is not amongst the states where GM will roll out their new electric car, the Chevy Volt, the automaker did test it out in Fairbanks last fall. GM is highlighting that Alaska venture in its publicity for the car, as winter comfort and operation are one of the biggest questions consumers have about the $40,000 plug-in car.
Andrew Farah, chief engineer for the Volt, said in a press release:
"Volt engineers spent many frigid weeks in places like Kapuskasing, Ontario and Fairbanks, Alaska testing and calibrating the climate control system to make sure that drivers and passengers remain comfortable while still enjoying plenty of gasoline-free electric driving, even in the harshest winter weather."
To minimize drain on the lithium ion battery during cold weather conditions, Chevy is suggesting that consumers utilize a smartphone application that allows the car to be remotely started while it is still plugged in. This way the electric heaters would at least be started and the car would be drawing electric power from the grid and the battery would stay fully charged.

Production of the much-anticipated 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, which features the spaciousness and amenities of a midsize car with the fuel economy and price of a compact, was celebrated today with red, white and blue models symbolically declaring that a world-class small car can be assembled in America by a domestic company.
The first vehicles for delivery to buyers were driven off the line at GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant in front of GM employees, dignitaries, union representatives and community members.
Cruze is already Chevrolet's top-selling car worldwide this year, with more than 165,000 sold, and second only to the Silverado full-size pickup for all Chevrolet vehicles - even before sales begin this month in the United States.
"We are delivering a car with the quality which Americans desire matched with features they would not expect in this segment, from 40 mpg on our Eco model to 10 airbags as standard across the range," General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said. "Of equal importance, we are working to redefine the views on a domestic carmaker building such a car here in the United States."

Toyota & Tesla Team Up to Create Electric-Powered RAV4
By Leader Staff. Published on 07/16/2010 - 11:54am
On Friday, Toyota Motor Corp. announced that they were teaming up with electric vehicle upstart Tesla Motors Inc. to work on developing an electric version of the Toyota RAV4 crossover vehicle. The companies plan to begin selling the vehicle in the US in 2012.
Tesla has already begun working on the electric power system for the RAV4. They've built one prototype for testing, and plan to deliver a fleet of them for Toyota to evaluate sometime this year.
In May, the two companies announced a partnership to develop and build electric cars at a recently closed auto factor near the San Francisco Bay area.
Toyota is investing $50 million in Tesla, which for now only sells one vehicle, a two-seat electric sports car that costs $109,000. In 2012, it plans to begin selling the Model S for a much more affordable $49,900. The Model S can travel up to 300 miles on a three to five hour charge.
