GM and Segway Join Forces in Project P.U.M.A.


Get ready for the Personal Urban and Mobility and Accessibility vehicle which will be known by the masses as P.U.M.A. General Motors and Segway are teaming up for an enclosed 2 seat vehicle that has the fuel efficiency of 200 mpg. The car will be for urban driving and will be able to reach speeds of 35 mph.

"We're excited about doing more with less," said Jim Norrod, chief executive of Segway, the Bedford, N.H.-based maker of electric scooters. "Less emissions, less dependability on foreign oil and less space."

No word on what Segway and GM are looking at as a price point for the vehicle. Here is a video demonstration of the P.U.M.A.


Tesla Motors Unveils Luxury Plug in Electric Car

California based auto maker Tesla Motors showed off their new car dubbed Model S yesterday at a press conference. The automaker wants to start producing the vehicle in two years and says it will priced at under $50,000 for the base model. The base battery will have a 160 mile range when fully charged and can be plugged in using a normal plug right from your own home. The top of the line battery pack will be able to travel at a distance of 300 miles per trip. The car looks dazzling and will be able to reach a top speed of about 130 mph. With fuel soaring of $2 a gallon again, consumers will be happy to hear that it will cost only $5 to drive 230 miles.

“Model S doesn’t compromise on performance, efficiency or utility -- it’s truly the only car you need,” said Tesla CEO, Chairman and Product Architect Elon Musk said in a press release. “Tesla is relentlessly driving down the cost of electric vehicle technology, and this is just the first of many mainstream cars we’re developing.”

Flying Car to be Launched as Soon as 2011 for a Price Under $200K


Ever since the cartoon "The Jetsons" first aired people wondered when the first flying car would launch. It may be sooner than you think. Terrafugia, Inc, held a public launch of their flying car and want to launch the vehicle/aircraft sometime around 2011. They say it will be priced at about $193,000.

“This breakthrough changes the world of personal mobility. Travel now becomes a hassle-free integrated land-air experience. It’s what aviation enthusiasts have been striving for since 1918,” says Carl Dietrich, CEO of Terrafugia.

The flying car can drive at highway speeds and can top out at about 115 MPH through the air. Below is the video of the first flight of the aircraft/motor vehicle.


Ford F-150 Named Truck of the Year, Hyundai Genesis Grabs Car Honors


The winners are in for the coveted prize of North American Car and Truck of the Year. In the truck category, the 2009 Ford F-150 won the award. The Hyundai Genesis, the largest and most powerful car that the Korean market has unleashed to the American market, won the award for the top car. The victory for Hyundai is the first time that a Korean market has won the award for the car of the year.

The F-150 dominated in the voting for best truck besting rivals the Dodge Ram and third place ML320 BlueTEC. The voting was 259-167-74 in the truck category. Ford almost pulled off a double honor as its model Flex lost in a close race to the Genesis 189-180 with the Jetti TDI placing third 131 votes. All voting is done by journalists in the automotive field. The victory in the truck category for Ford is the fifth time that the company has been honored with Truck of the Year and the third time that the F-150 has taken home the prize. All models that are under consideration must be a new model or redesigned for that model year.

Lexus Unveils Their First Hybrid Designed for the Entry-Level Luxury Market

Toyota had a smash hit with hybrid Prius, and now they're about to try their luck with a hybrid for the entry-level luxury car market. Unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show, Lexus is adding its fourth hybrid to their nameplate, the HS 250h.

Lexus already has three hybrids - the GS 450h, the LS 600h L, and the RX 450h. The HS 250h is based on the Prius platform, but gets rid of the Prius' hatchback design in favor of a traditional four-door sedan style.

The HS 250h does not borrow the Prius' engine, rather it uses the same 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine from the Toyota Corolla and Camry. Combined, the gas engine and the Lexus Hybrid Drive system provide 187 HP.

Lexus hasn't yet revealed EPA mileage numbers for the new hybrid, but did state the it will be "more than 30 percent better than the most fuel-efficient model currently in the Lexus lineup."

World Premiere of 2010 Ford Mustang at Los Angeles Auto Show

Ford Motor Company launched the 2010 Ford Mustang today at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The iconic sports car will be amiable in both V-6 and v-8 editions with the latter boasting an impressive 315 horsepower with better fuel efficiency that previous models. The new Mustang will continue to built in right here in the USA at a plant in Michigan.

Ford released this statement today trumpeting 45th edition of the Mustang:

"More than 9 million customers have made Mustang one of the world's most beloved automotive and cultural icons," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "Making sure this modern legend lives up to their expectations has been a driving force for the team, which went to great lengths – gathering customer input everywhere from race tracks to Main Streets in cities throughout the U.S. – working to create the best Mustang ever."

Volkswagen's Jetta TDI Sets Record for Fuel Efficiency Earning Nearly 59 MPG


Move over Toyota Prius, you have nothing on the Volkswagen Jetta TDI. A couple driving the Jetta TDI, which runs on clean diesel fuel, set the Guinness World Record in the United States by averaging 58.82 Miles Per Gallon on a 20 day trip that ended in West Virginia on Thrusday. The couple shattered the previous record which was 51.58 MPG.

"We are very excited and grateful to have broken the current Guinness World Record for lowest fuel consumption across the 48 contiguous United States," said Helen Taylor who took the multi-state trip with her husband John. "We would like to thank Volkswagen for providing us their new clean diesel Jetta that helped us get another World Record and to Shell for supplying the diesel fuel."

The couple, for those seeking advice on gas saving tips, advocate avoiding idling and higher speeds, minimizing vehicle drag and performing regular vehicle maintenance.

If you are wondering about the Volkswagen TDI here is the information. The car is priced at just under $22,000 for the base model and is rated at 30 mpg city and 41 mpg in government tests for fuel efficiency.

Toyota Matrix Being Shown Off at San Diego's Asian Film Festival

The Toyota Matrix is the official vehicle sponsor of the 9th annual San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF), running October 9 through October 16, 2008, which will take place at the Mission Valley UltraStar Cinema at Hazard Center.

Founded in the year of 2000, the SDAFF became San Diego's largest Asian American cultural event that organized by San Diego Asian Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the diverse Asian American experience through the media arts. In its 9th year, the San Diego Asian Film Foundation will showcase over 130 short and feature films from a record 17 countries including Canada, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and the U.S.
