Senator George Voinovich Finally Expresses Views On Bush's War Plan
Ohio Republican Senator George Voinovich was notably quiet when George Bush spoke to the nation about his plans for the Iraq war on Thrusday night. Voinovich finally has expressed his view and it could be described as luke warm at best. Speaking to Dayton News Chanell WDTN, Voinovich said that he saw the remarks by Bush as a step forward but wasn't the sweeping changes that are needed.
Voinovich is seen as a key vote on the issue in the Senate. He has expressed interest in finding an acceptable solution to both Republicans and Democrats and states he will be will be working on a comprehensive plan that he will announce in the near future.
Don't Tell Jim Tressel, But OSU's Next Opponent May be a Walkover
Jim Tressel is probably telling his Ohio State squad that Northwestern is a dangerous team. He probably is telling them that the ghost of Otto Graham will lineup in their offensive sets and Ara Parseghian has come back to coach the Wildcats. Truthfully, the Wildcats are more like a nicely trained house cat as they helped end Duke's 22 game losing streak on Saturday.
Northwestern is coming off a 4-8 season and 2-1 after defeating Northeastern and Nevada. The squad will not matchup well in any phases against the Buckeyes. The Buckeyes defense will feast on the last ranked Big 10 offense from a year ago and give quarter back CJ Bacher fits as he tries to handle the veteran defense.
Senior Adam Kadela, who plays linebacker, is the leader of the defense. He registered 80 tackles last season. The defensive secondary is suspect and will likely be targeted by Ohio State on Saturday afternoon.
Browns Offense Clicks on All Cylinders in 51-45 Victory Against Bengals
The Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals met in their bi-annual Battle of Ohio Sunday. The game started ominously on the brisk fall-like day. The Bengals offense systematically drove the field down the field in their first drive against the Browns defense on the first possession of the game. The long drive concluded with 4 yard touchdown pass to Bengal running back Rudi Johnson. It looked like the Browns and their fans would be in for a long afternoon from the look of the first 4 minutes of the ballgame. Things looked even more worrisome for Browns faithful as the Browns went 3 and out against a suspect Cincinnati defense. By the end of the game, however, the madness that happened on Tuesday would seem to have to disappeared from memories as the Browns looked like an NFL offense once more and may have restored faith in Cleveland football (well at least for another week).
Carmona Wins 17th, Tribe Shuts Out Royals

Not only is Fausto Carmona a shoe in for the AL Comeback Award, he is making it difficult to leave him off the Cy Young Award Ballot. The young right hander for the Cleveland Indians dominated the Kansas City Royals with his nasty sinker and won his 17th game. Carmona allowed only 3 hits and struck out 9 as his ERA dropped to 3.09. More improtanly, the Indians magic number to clinch the division is now 9 games.
The Indians scored their first run in the bottom of the 1st on a Asdrubal Cabrera double that scored Grady Sizemore. They would score again in the third when Travis Hafner homered to right field. The scoring would subside until the eigth when the team exploded for four runs sealing the game.
The final score Cleveland 6 Kansas City 0. Carmona is now 17-8 and the losing pitcher, Zack Greinke, fell to 6-6 on the year.
Buckeyes Roll In Second Half to 33-14 Victory
The Ohio State Buckeyes moved to 3-0 today with a victory over the Pac-10's Washington Huskies. The 10th ranked Buckeyes trailed at half 7-3 and it looked Washington like momentum had turned on a long drive aided by scrambling quarterback Jake Locker when the game Ohio State squad would turn on the switch with a hard hitting defense and a blocked field goal. After the blocked field goal, the Buckeyes wouldn't look Todd Boeckman, a 23 year old senior, was unfazed in his first road start and had a solid game going 14/25 with 218 yards and, most important no turnovers. Chris Wells provided the running attack as he ran for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Linebacker James Laurinaitis was the standout on the defensive end, getting two key interceptions on drives that Washington was threatening.
The Buckeyes head back home for their first meeting in the Big Ten against Northwestern on Saturday.
Can Someone tell The Indians this is Getting Old?

The 2007 Cleveland Indians have made a habit of making the postgame interviewee the recipient of a whipped cream pie in the face. Is it just me, or is this getting old? Oh, wait, it got old the first time I saw it. I have read many books on Major League Baseball. I don't remember the 1927 New York Yankees or the 1948 Cleveland Indians making it any kind of post game ritual. I can see some kind of celebration for winning something, but a pie in the face after beating the Kansas City Royals?
Trot Nixon was the "brainchild" behind this juvenile behavior. He probably figured that he couldn't hit (or field for that matter) anymore so he wanted to keep himself on the roster some how. The scary thing is, it seems to have worked!
The Obligatory Ode to Paul Brown for Bengals/Browns Week

What would a week in which the Cleveland Browns play the Cincinnati Bengals be without paying homage to Paul Brown? Considering both franchises were started by, in my mind, the best head coach in the history of football and that the teams both play in stadiums (Cleveland's indirect/Cincinnati's not so subtle) named after the man, you cannot forget to mention the legacy of Brown and what he provided to both Ohio franchises and to the National Football League as a whole.
Brown was an Ohio legend long before he started the Cleveland Browns. Starring as a quarterback for Washington High School in Massillon and later Miami of Ohio in college, Brown excelled on the field despite his small frame. It wasn't until he started to coach that it became evident that football wasn't just a hobby to him.
At Only 23 years old, Brown returned to Massillon to coach at his alumni. He compiled a record of 80-8-2 at the school and in the 1940 season his teams outscored their opponents 477 to 6.
It was apparent that Brown was a gifted coach. He soon graduated to the college ranks when the Ohio State Buckeyes came calling. Brown's tenure would be interrupted at OSU due to World War 2 but brought Columbus its first National Championship team in 1942.
