Concert Review: OK Go at the Grog Shop

OK Go played at the Grog Shop in Cleveland this past Friday, November 6th. The band has come to Cleveland many times in the past but this was my first opportunity to see them peform. I heard rumors that they put on an awesome show and found out that the rumors were true.
No matter where you stand in the Grog Shop you feel like you are close to the band. It's a great venue for a concert. OK Go was full of energy from the time they stepped on the stage until the last song.
The band opened the show with a new song titled, "Shoot the Moon". Immediately following were a couple of their popular hits, "Get Over it" and " A Million Ways". Damien Kulash (vocals/guitar) addressed the crowd in between just about every song. One time he asked the fans if they felt Cleveland deserved the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. He then stated that he thought Cleveland was an odd place to put the Rock Hall. After fans shouted for a few moments the topic died quickly but I'm not sure why that was brought up in the first place.
Six Feet Under releases Graveyard Classics III as a tribute to whom inspired their birth
South Florida's undeniable kings of groove laden death metal SIX FEET UNDER are back with their 3rd installment of the band's cover series, Graveyard Classics 3, due out on Metal Blade Records, Jan. 19, 2010. Graveyard Classics 3 was recorded at D.O.I. Digital Audio in Tampa, FL, was mixed at Audiohammer Studios by Mark Lewis, and was produced by Chris Barnes.
Here's what the godfather of gore and death Chris Barnes has to say about the band's latest chapter in the Graveyard Classics chain:
“We went about picking the tracks for this installment of Graveyard Classics by really just trying to search out songs from early on in our musical upbringing, as well as tracks from when we were just fans of heavy music, before we started playing in a band. Once again choosing songs that have really stuck with us over the years, also choosing the songs that we felt would sound interesting when played in the SFU ‘death groove' style.
Through the years of doing covers, many of our fans have inquired about us covering a Slayer or a Metallica song. It was really something we wanted to do for some time, those two bands being our biggest influences, as well as influencing a generation of death metal musicians.
To sum it up…this is a tribute to honor the great teachers that have influenced us as well as the world of metal we all belong to. We hope our fans will enjoy.“

OK Go are Coming to Cleveland This Friday

OK Go is perhaps best known for their wildly popular videos, and especially their treadmills. The band's YouTube videos have millions of hits between them, and have been parodied on The Simpsons. And yes, they also make music, amongst other things. If ever the word "quirky" applied to a band, OK Go is it, and they'll be bringing their show to Cleveland on Friday at the equally cool concert club, The Grog Shop.
OK Go's frontman, Damian Kulash once said:
We're trying to be a DIY band in a post-major label world" or "Our whole bag is having good ideas and making cool s~~t."
Amongst the cool sh** they've made recently is a play, an essay in the best-selling collection Things I've Learned From Women Who Dumped Me, a record acccompanied only by trombones, and opinion pieces in the Huffington Post and New York Times. They've also testified before Congress and played music in the Senate chambers. They bought a house for soul legend Al Johnson so he could move home to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and have a project whereby the walk the street handing out burritos to the homeless. And yep, they've even interviewed a member of N'Sync in the bathroom.

Alison Morrer introduces Crows for February, 2010
Allison Moorer is set to release her Ryko debut, Crows, on Feb. 9, 2010. Produced by R.S. Field (Buddy Guy, John Mayall) at the House of David Studio in Nashville, the 13-track album is a refined and lyrically honest collection of songs that is a marked stylistic departure from her previous work. Crows is the anticipated follow up to her critically acclaimed 2008 album, Mockingbird, which was a celebration of songs composed by a stunning cast of female songwriters including Nina Simone, Patti Smith, Cat Power, her sister Shelby Lynne, and more. It also follows Moorer’s first Grammy Award Nomination for the song “Days Aren’t Long Enough,” a composition she co-wrote with her husband, Steve Earle, for his Grammy Award Winning 2007 album Washington Square Serenade.
Speaking with Billboard Magazine regarding Crows, Moorer stated “I really just set myself free and just threw all the rules out the window.” Regarding the album’s title, Moorer offered “We have crows in the yard at our place up in Woodstock. I am a little obsessed with birds, and have been told that they are indeed our messengers from the other side. So I decided that instead of letting the crows make me uneasy, I would start to consider them as friendlies, and that they were actually bringing me a message of comfort.”
