Arena Football One League Announces Television Deal With NFL Network

And you thought the football season was over.... The Arena Football One League has announced that the NFL Network will air a "game of the week". SportsBusiness Journal says that the agreement is for one year.
The AF1 features 12 teams including the Cleveland Gladiators. The Gladiators kick off their season on April 3rd against the Arizona Rattlers.
Browns Cut WR Donte’ Stallworth

The Cleveland Browns today terminated the contract of wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth. Stallworth was suspended by the NFL for the 2009 season after pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter charges in Florida and had been reinstated by the league to the league after suspension following the Super Bowl.
Stallworth played one season with the Browns in 2008 after spending time with the Patriots (2007), Eagles (2006) and Saints (2002-2005). In his 11 games with the Browns, Stallworth made 7 starts with 17 catches for 170 yards.
Kailey Klein Named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Cleveland State senior Kailey Klein has been named Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Feb. 1-7. The selection marks Klein’s third weekly honor from the League office this season and the eighth of her career.
Klein, a guard from Cherry, Ill., averaged 26.0 points and 12.5 rebounds while posting a pair of double-doubles in Horizon League action last week. She also raised her career point total to 1,876, becoming Cleveland State’s all-time leading scorer in the process.
Klein recorded 21 points and 11 rebounds in Cleveland State’s 62-51 victory over UIC on Thursday. She then registered a season-high 31 points and career-high tying 14 boards against Loyola on Saturday.
The Horizon League’s 2009-10 Preseason Player of the Year continues to pace the conference in scoring (16.5) through 22 affairs. She also ranks fifth in blocked shots (0.8) and sixth in rebounding (7.5).
The Vikings, 11-10 overall and 6-5 in League play, travel to Valparaiso on Thursday at 8:05 p.m. ET and Butler on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Klein will become eligible for the Horizon League Network’s “People’s Choice” award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon. Log on to www.HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv to vote.
CSU’s Trevon Harmon named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Cleveland State sophomore guard Trevon Harmon has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 7.
A native of Pasadena, Calif., Harmon averaged 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Vikings won at UIC (74-63) and Loyola (59-56) to move into second place in the League standings. He had a team-high 17 points and five assists against UIC on Thursday and then 14 points and six rebounds versus Loyola on Saturday while shooting 50 percent (11-for-22) from the field for the week. Against Loyola, Harmon’s layup with 3:54 remaining tied the game and the Vikings never trailed again. His steal with 30 seconds left led to two free throws by Tim Kamczyc that gave Cleveland State a 57-54 lead.
For the season, Harmon averages 11.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.
Cleveland State (12-12, 8-4 Horizon League) will play host this week to Valparaiso on Thursday and nationally ranked and League-leading Butler on Saturday at the Wolstein Center, where the Vikings have won 13 consecutive League games. The CSU-Butler game is the Horizon League Network Game of the Week and a re-match of last year’s Horizon League championship game won by the Vikings.
New Orleans Saints March Past Indianapolis Colts 31-17

The New Orleans Saints are Super Bowl champions tonight after disposing of the favored Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Miami. The Colts got off to a quick 10-0 lead after one quarter, but the Saints would cut their lead to only 4 at intermission with two field goals. New Orleans, who had a 4th down call backfire on them late in the first half at the Colts goal line, would surprise the Colts with an onside kick to start the second half and convert it for a go-ahead score at 13-10. The Colts would quickly answer with a 10 play 76 yard drive and a one point lead. That would be the last time that Peyton Manning's club would have the lead, however, as the Saints would score the next 15 points for a 31-17 victory. Leading the way in the New Orleans' Super Bowl victory was quarterback Drew Brees, who went an outstanding 32-29 for 288 yards and two TDs.
Here is how the scoring went down in tonight's contest:
Gateway's $3.2-Million Budget Bargain for Teams in 2010
The Gateway Economic Development Corp., the non-profit entity that operates Progressive Field and Quicken Arena, has set a budget of $3,275,873 for 2010.
As a result of Gateway’s near bankruptcy a few years ago the two team owners decided to “save” Gateway from bankruptcy by agreeing to pay operating costs. They now are multi-millionaires Larry Dolan of the Indians and Dan Gilbert of the Cavaliers.
In exchange, the team owners got the entitlement to income from naming rights. It now looks as if the team owners again got the best of the bargain. By far.
Naming rights revenues now easily exceed the operating costs, as we shall see.
Just how good a deal this was can be seen by the naming rights cost at the former Jacobs Field, now Progressive Field. The naming rights bring Larry Dolan $3.6 million a year. (As Jacobs Field in the final years the rate was some $900,000 a year.) See the $3.6 million deal here: http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080111&content_id=2343558&vkey=news_cle&fext=.jsp&c_id=cle
Dolan’s share of the 2010 proposed budget is $1,890,548, according to Gateway. That sounds like less than $3.6 million a year the naming rights produces. Maybe half?
Browns Won't Raise Season Ticket Prices in 2010

The Cleveland Browns today announced that season ticket prices for the 2010 season will not increase.
Season ticket prices for the Browns, which continue to rank among the lowest in the NFL, have not increased in five of the last seven years. In fact, this year prices for select seats will be lower than they were in 2009.
For the first time ever, each Season Ticket Account Holder will have their own Personal Ticket Services Representative. They will also receive in-stadium discounts on items such as concessions and team merchandise, in addition to discounted season parking.
“Having faced the Browns several times in Cleveland as a head coach, I know what a home field advantage our stadium can provide,” said Browns President Mike Holmgren. “We're excited about continuing to build the type of team that our fans can be proud of. I know that they will be an integral part of any success that we have and that is why we are pleased to keep our ticket prices as affordable as possible for our fans.”
For the first time, season tickets are available in the Cleveland Browns Family Zone – a family-friendly, alcohol-free area in Cleveland Browns Stadium. Prices in the Family Zone are set at $32 per game on a season basis, making them one of the most affordable in the NFL.
Renewal information for current Season Ticket Holders will be mailed later this month. Season Ticket Holders also have the option of renewing their tickets through their Season Ticket Holder Locker Room on ClevelandBrowns.com. For the second straight year, the Browns are offering a series of flexible payment options and renewal prizes. Season Ticket Holders can log in to their Locker Room on ClevelandBrowns.com to take advantage of these payment options.
Vikings Look to Even Season Record Against Loyola

Cleveland State closes out its annual trip to Chicago when the Vikings play at Loyola on Saturday, Feb. 6 beginning at 3:00 p.m. CST in the Joseph J. Gentile Center on the Loyola campus. The Vikings (11-12, 7-4) ran their league win streak to four on Thursday night when they never trailed in a 74-63 win at UIC. CSU enters the weekend in third place in the Horizon League standings, a half-game behind second place Wright State (8-4) and a half-game ahead of both Green Bay and Detroit, who are each 7-5. Loyola (13-9, 4-8) snapped a four-game losing streak on Thursday night when the Ramblers edged Youngstown State, 92-85 in overtime. Loyola is in eighth place in the league standings, a game-and-a-half out of seventh. The Ramblers hold a 22-13 lead in the all-time series, but CSU has won four of the last five games, including three straight.
