Cleveland Browns
Browns Made a Mistake With Mangini, Now It's Time to Fix It

There is nothing in life that I hate more than a hypocrite. As this crazy season keeps on spinning further and further out of control there appears to be many of them.
It's confession time.
Not long after the Browns hired Eric Mangini I went against my gut feeling that hiring Mangini was huge mistake and penned a article by the name off "The Eric Mangini Project" opining why, after much deliberation, I felt Mangini might turn out to be a good coach.
I wish I can at least pretend that I was under the guise of "The Almighty Blogger", that like so many of my fellow bloggers I thought I supposedly new better than the average dude rocking a Lee Suggs jersey.
Unfortunately, in my case it was sheer stupid Cleveland sports fan bias. I knew Mangini was a terrible coach after closely following his exploits with the Jets. He was unimaginative, egotistical and pathetic.
My warped Cleveland mind came up with some crap that he was "struggling to reconcile his aggressiveness with his fundamentalistic approach to the game" to explain why he had previously been unsuccessful. I also "brilliantly" pointed out the similarities in character traits and career paths that Eric Mangini and Bill Belichik had.
NFL Fines Browns' Brady Quinn for Low Hit on Ravens' Terrell Suggs

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has been fined by the National Football League for a chop block on Terrell Suggs of the Baltimore Ravens during Monday Night Football this week. According to a league source, an MRI exam showed that Suggs suffered a severe MCL sprain from the chop block.
Quinn revealed that he received a letter from the NFL on Wednesday, but wouldn't disclose the size of the fine. He simply commented that it was "a good amount." Quinn also adds that he was not trying to hurt Suggs, and has apologized to him and the Ravens.
Quinn threw the chop block at Suggs in the third quarter after an interception, rolling into his right knee. Suggs' agent, Gary Wichard, told press that he fears he could miss the rest of the season. A league source says that there is not yet a timetable for Suggs return, but that he would at least miss the next few weeks, if not more.
Wichard also said:
"That cat should be fined as much as anybody is fined that hits the quarterback. That's ridiculous. I don't understand what he was trying to do. It was blatant. It's absolutely criminal. It's about as nasty as it gets.
Randy Lerner in Talks With Mike Holmgren for Role With Cleveland Browns

Jim Brown had a bombshell announcement today at at a luncheon of Our Lady by the Wayside. The legendary running back state:
"At this moment, right now Randy Lerner is meeting with one of the great football minds in this country," Brown said in remarks prior to and during the luncheon. "And if things work out, that person will come in to run the football side of the Browns."
When someone in audience asked if it was former Green Bay Packers coach and Seattle Seahawks Mike Holmgren, Brown stated:
"You said it ... and I heard it."
Holmgren has one Super Bowl title under his belt and 3 NFC Championship rings. His career record is 157-100 in the regular season and has experience in the front office with the Seahawks as their GM.
Browns Josh Cribbs Released from Hospital; Agent Upset Over Last Play

The Cleveland Browns not only lost to the Baltimore Ravens at home 16-0 during Monday Night Football, but the game also ended on a very bad note with receiver Josh Cribbs being taken off the field on a stretcher. Fortunately word was given Tuesday morning that Cribbs is alright, but the scare was enough to upset his agent who called the final play of the game "pointless" in their shutout by the Ravens.
Agent J.R. Rickert said in a text:
"I can't even put into words how upset I am at them for leaving him in like that. Fortunately, he's doing well."
Rickert also revealed that Cribbs texted him from the hospital at 3:48am indicating that he was fine. Cribbs had been immobilized on a board and then taken to the hospital by ambulance. Once at the hospital, a series of tests were run, including some to determine whether or not he had suffered a concussion.
The hook-and-ladder play which could have seriously injured the Browns only good player hasn't just been criticized by Rickert. Both a league source as well as Trevor Pryce, a defensive end with the Ravens, have also criticized the play. Catching a 10-yard pass thrown by quarterback Brady Quinn, Cribbs then lateraled to Robert Royal and was drilled with a forearm under the chin by Dwan Edwards.
NFL Players Association Looking into Complaints About Browns Coach Eric Mangini

After the Cleveland Browns loss on national television Monday night, an anonymous source with the NFL Players Association revealed to the press on Tuesday that the NFLPA is trying to set up a meeting with Browns players this week to discuss coach Eric Mangini's practices. Speaking on conditions of anonymity, the source says that the union is looking into what's been going on in Cleveland due to concerns over health and safety.
Two players have been injured during post-pratice drills that Mangini refers to as "opportunity periods." Keith Grennan, a member of the team's practice squad, hurt his knee during one of these drills last week, and rookie running back James Davis was put on the injured reserve last month with a season ending shoulder injury.
The league looked into what happened with Davis and made the determination that the Browns did not violate any NFL policies. In this review, the league looked at videos of the practice session, as well as conducted interviews with players, coaches and team staff.
Last week, however, running back Jamal Lewis commented that he thought Mangini was wearing out his players by overworking the team. However, a day after those comments, Lewis backpedaled and then blamed the media for exaggerating complaints.
Sign Of the Times: "Baltimore Can You Take This Team Too"

While Cleveland Browns fans suffer through another awful year of football, one person in the stands had a pretty good idea. How about Baltimore stealing this team away from us like they did 14 years ago? A man in the dawg pound held up the sign which read "Baltimore Can You Take This Team Too" during the Monday Night Football game. Luckily (or unluckily) he isn't a Washington Redskins fan, where they will kick you out of the game for such public statements.
Browns Quotebook After Blowout Loss to Baltimore on MNF

The Cleveland Browns had another rough night yesterday falling to the Baltimore Ravens 16-0 on national television. First and foremost on everyones mind was the status of Josh Cribbs who was injured on the last play of the game and taken off on stretcher. Eric Mangini said after the game:
Are You Ready for Some "Football"?

The Cleveland Browns are a long way away from the team that came in 2nd in the AFC North and went 7-7 in a season that included a 31-21 win over the New York Jets on September 21, 1970, marking the debut of Monday Night Football. Technically, they're a completely different team from the very bottom-up, but that's yet another crude reminder of Cleveland football anguish best saved for another day. So as the 1-7 Browns prepare to play host to the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens, they may want to also ask themselves, "does anybody really care"?
WJW Buys Remaining Browns Tickets So MNF Won't Be Blacked Out in Cleveland

WJW Fox 8 has stepped up and purchased the remaining tickets to the Cleveland Browns game on Monday Night Football against the Baltimore Ravens. The station is televising the game that would have been blacked out in the Cleveland area if it hadn't sold out. While Browns fans are out of the woods this week, chances are that a home game will not be seen on television this year. Of the four remaining games this season, only one is currently sold out.
