Keith Olbermann Suspended Indefinitely from MSNBC After Political Contributions Come to Light

"Countdown" host Keith Olbermann was suspended by MSNBC on Friday after the network became aware that he donated to three Democratic candidates. Olbermann gave the maximum individual donation of $2,400 to three candidates in Tuesday's election - Arizona Reps. Gabrielle Giffords and Raul Grijalva, and Senate hopeful Jack Conway, who lost in Kentucky to Rand Paul.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement on Friday:

"I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay."

Olbermann issued a statement of his own in which he said that he "did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns nor to any others in this election or any previous ones." He also noted that he had not "previously donated to any political campaign at any level."

NBC News editorial staff members, like journalists at most major news organizations, are forbidden from giving to political candidates. Even more troubling to the network was that Olbermann anchored election coverage Tuesday evening without disclosing the contributions he had made to some of the candidates.

Ed FitzGerald didn't waste any time getting his team together to change Cuyahoga County. The newly elected county executive named four people to the transition team. Here are the people who will help transform the county government from the current system to an executive style:

* David Abbott, executive director of The George Gund Foundation
* Andres Gonzalez, director of Diversity & Community Outreach for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation
* Sharon Sobol Jordan, President and CEO of the Center for Families and Children
* Frederick R. Nance, Regional Managing Partner of Squire Sanders and Dempsey

“I appreciate the support of Cuyahoga County voters and have learned that they have high expectations for our new government, so we wanted to get to work immediately," FitzGerald said in a press release.

A new website has been launched for voters to see what the new team is up to. It is located at http://executive.cuyahogacounty.us/.

Republican Bob Gibbs Defeats Incumbent Democrat Zach Space for House Seat

Betty Sutton Defeats Tom Ganley in Congressional Bid

Tom Ganley can now report back to his car lots. The Republican auto dealer lost his bid in Congress to incumbent Betty Sutton. Ganley's campaign got derailed by two allegations of sexual assault and an unrelated lawsuit from a former employee who had worked for him for 3 decades. Sutton has held the seat in the House since 2007 and represents the western and southern suburbs of Cleveland, including North Royalton, Akron, Lorain, Elyria, Strongsville, Avon and Cuyahoga Falls.

Dennis Kucinich, Marcia Fudge, and Marcy Kaptur Keep Seats in House of Representatives

The wave of GOP wins didn't unseat 3 Northern Ohio Democrats today as Dennis Kucinich, Marcia Fudge, and Marcy Kaptur have been projected as winners by the AP in their races today.

Kucinich garnered an estimated 55% of the votes according to early reports. He has been in Cleveland area politics for four decades and remains a cultish hero to left leaning Democrats. Fudge held down the Democrats seat on the east side which has been a lock for the party for years.

Kaptor had been in a tough battle with Rich Iott but after pictures of him in a Nazi uniform surfaced his campaign failed to regain its footing.

Jim Traficant's Bid For Congress Fails On Election Night

Jim Traficant won't be getting "beamed back" to Congress. The convicted felon, who was one of the most colorful members in the House of Representatives during his long tenure, failed to unseat his former aid Tim Ryan in the election tonight. The 69 year old served in the House from 1985 to 2002 and the former Democrat ran as an Independent.

AP Calls Ohio Senate Race For Rob Portman

The Associated Press has called the Ohio Senate race going to Rob Portman. Portman had led in the polls over Democrat and former Lieutenant Governor Lee nearly the entire race.

It is interesting to note that Portman served in two federal cabinet positions under the administration of President George W. Bush, who was widely unpopular in the Buckeye State in the last election cycle. The seat in the Senate was vacated by former Governor and Cleveland Mayor George Voinovich who will retire after his term ends early next year.

Bill Clinton Calls 4 Ohio Radio Stations Urging Democrats to Get Out and Vote

Former President Bill Clinton doesn't want to see Ohio go to the Republicans, namely, John Kasich in the race for Governor, and has been stumping for incumbent Ted Strickland for some time now. Even on Election Day, Clinton isn't giving up. On Tuesday, he called into four Ohio radio stations hoping to encourage Ohioans to get out and vote Democrat.

Just three days ago, Clinton teamed up with Strickland at four stops on the campaign trail in Ohio. He's also been stumping for Democrats in many states and districts with moder to conservative voters, areas where President Barack Obama might not be so popular.
