Rob Ryan Talks About Disputed First Down Against Steelers and Swine Flu

(On if he is sure he doesn’t have the flu)- “I don’t know. I’ve already had it. I had it for two days. I don’t know whether it’s swine flu or whatever those flu’s are. I call it the cry baby flu. It was sick. My whole family is sick. Wife left town and everybody got sick, so I don’t know what happened. I blame her.”

(On the fourth-and-one measurement at Pittsburgh)- “Like I said, I had the flu and I don’t remember it. I’ll just stick with that. I guess my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be.”

(On if the NFL explained the measurement to the team)- “Not to me. All we do, as assistant coaches, is you turn in plays that you think should be looked at. That’s pretty much my part of it. You hear back from Eric (Mangini) on how they ruled on some things and that’s about it.”

Eric Mangini Talks About Eric Wright's Car Wreck at Morning Press Conference

(Opening statement)- “Good morning everybody. How are we doing? Eric Wright was in a car accident last night. He was in this morning and we sent him just to get some further tests. I talked to him about it. I’m really hopeful that he can play. I am really happy that he is safe. That’s where that is.

“In terms of the guys that had been out with the illness, we’ve got almost all of them back. What I did yesterday, I didn’t have the afternoon meetings. What I wanted to do was make sure that we watched the tape with the group of guys that got back so they would be familiar with Thursday’s practice. Watch that as a group and have the guys that did participate in practice, they can help them out. Coaches can make the points there and they can hear them and then they will get together with coaches, as well, after practice today to get caught up on Wednesday and the other game plan specific things. Hopefully we are over the hump with this now. There really haven’t been any new guys out with illness. That’s what I’m looking forward to, is to be able to get past this part of it, get everybody caught up and move into the weekend.”

(On if anyone is still out)- “Corey (Williams) is still out.”

Eric Wright Crashes His Car After Jay-Z Concert

If the Cleveland Browns didn't have bad luck, they would have no luck at all. The teams starting cornerback was involved in a single car accident last night after attending Jay-Z's rap concert (review on our site later today). Police say that Wright flipped his Mercedes over on a wet highway entrance ramp.

Wright was transported to MetroHealth Hospital after the accident and was released after getting a medical okay. He was able to make it to Browns training camp this morning where Browns head coach Eric Mangini said he was happy that he was okay but added:

"I wouldn't necessarily be out at 2:10 in the morning, but we don't have curfew year-round," Mangini said. "I'd rather everybody be home, but guys do go out. You don't want to see anybody in a bad accident or any situation like that. I much prefer that guys were in, but it's a personal decision."

The Browns may want to splurge on drivers ed classes for their team this year. Rookie James Davis was also hurt in a one car accident this year and now is out for the season after a separate injury sustained in practice.

Eric Mangini's Thrusday Morning Meeting With the Media

(Opening statement)- “How’s everybody doing? Good. Anybody have a cold? I thought yesterday that the guys did a good job, in terms of adjusting to the players that we were missing. We scaled down practice some. I didn’t have the afternoon meetings yesterday. We were able to get the film work done here this morning. I thought as a group, [they] adjusted well to the changes that we had. We should get Kamerion (Wimbley) back today and Shaun Rogers back today. There really haven’t been any new cases, so that’s positive as well. In terms of the timetable for the rest of the group coming back, not totally sure yet, but we’re going to just be as cautious as we can with this to make sure that we don’t go into the weekend and put the group that hasn’t had it in a position where they could get it. That’s kind of where we are with the state of affairs, in terms of the flu related symptoms.

Mangini Talks About the Flu Bug That is Ravaging the Browns Locker Room

(Opening statement)- “Good morning everybody. How are we doing? Just in terms of practice today, we’re going to cut practice down a little bit. We just have to make some adjustments. We had the flu cases and some more guys have come down with it. We’re actually working with quite a few less players. It’ll probably shorten the player availability, in terms of not as many guys to interview. Guys that won’t be here today: Jerome Harrison, Alex Mack, Anthony Madison, Brodney Pool, Shaun Rogers, Robert Royal, Chansi Stuckey, Jason Trusnik, Brian Schaefering, Lawrence Vickers, Corey Williams, Kamerion Wimbley. We’re trying to, the first signs of any type of illness, get the guys home and out of the building. We’re working as hard as we can to promote things to prevent the illness, obviously stressing important things like sleep and hands and things like that. It’s that time of year and unfortunately we have quite a few guys who are dealing with it. We’ll adjust practice. We’ll work around it and continue to move forward on Green Bay.

Browns QB Answers the Media's Questions at Press Conference

(On if he got a flu shot)- “I do everything possible to try not to get sick, like sleep all day yesterday (joking). No, I didn’t sleep all day. I just got up about 9:00.”

(On how he is going to get the offense going)- “Just keep working. Don’t force anything, just trying to keep making good decisions and make sure the ball goes to the right spot. Continue to grind and prepare and eventually it’s going to pay off.”

(On the receiving corps being new)- “We do have a lot of new guys. It’s going to take time. We continue to work after practice, just keep working, throwing, catching and getting used to each other. The other thing too it, those guys haven’t played. That’s a lot of it. Just being out there playing, catching the ball first, making a move. The game is fast. Those guys made some strides last week I thought, overall.”

Browns Players Talk About Upcoming Game With Green Bay and More

Linebacker David Bowens

(On D’Qwell Jackson being placed on Injured Reserve)- “Not only is he the leading tackler on this team, but around the league, one of the top five leading tacklers, but life goes on. Of course we’re going to miss him, but we have to do what we have to do to try to win some games.”

(On moving to inside linebacker)- “I’m comfortable with it. I played middle linebacker last year for a few games. It’s not a new position for me. I‘ll just have to freshen up on my technique and things I have to do like that. We’re going to miss D’Qwell’s presence out there, with his tackles and all that stuff. I have to be ready, that’s all.”

(On Aaron Rogers)- “He’s one of those quarterbacks that it’s like a double-edged sword with him. If you let him sit back there and throw the ball, he’ll find his spots. If you also try to pressure him, he’ll be able to get out and run. He’s a slippery guy. One thing he likes to do is run if he sees the pressure.”

Wide Receiver Josh Cribbs

Flu Bug Hits Cleveland Browns

Sources have confirmed with me that the flu bug has hit the Cleveland Browns. Eric Mangini sent 12 players home due to sickness including Jerome Harrison,Shaun Rogers, and Kamerion Wimbley.

The Browns have decided on having a lighter practice than normal today in order to give his team more rest. The Browns play Green Bay at the Stadium on Sunday.

Browns Linebacker D’Qwell Jackson Out for the Season

The last thing the Cleveland Browns needed was more bad news. They got some today, however, when they found out that starting linebacker D’Qwell Jackson is out for the season. Browns head coach Eric Mangini broke the news that the shoulder injury would keep the veteran out for the season and lamented:

“It’s disappointing any time you lose a player for the season, and this is especially true with someone like D’Qwell, who has proven to be an outstanding leader for us both on and off the field.”

The Browns play the Green Bay Packers at the Stadium at 1:00 on Sunday.
