Cleveland Browns
Former Browns GM Phil Savage Weighs in Braylon Edwards Trade

It seems that just about everyone in Cleveland and the football world has an opinion on the Browns trading Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets. It is not surprising that former Browns GM, who drafted Edwards out of the University of Michigan with the 3rd overall pick in 2005, would share his thoughts about the trade. Speaking to The Sporting News, Savage says that he believes that the Jets are the right fit for the troubled 26 year old wide receiver saying:
"The Jets are getting a very talented player," Savage said in a phone interview with Sporting News. "I believe he'll be extremely motivated, and I think Rex Ryan is the right type of coach for Braylon. Look at it this way: When Rex was with the Ravens as a defensive coordinator, he coached against Braylon twice a year. Rex wouldn't want any part of Braylon if he didn't respect him as a player."
So why did Edwards underachieve with the Browns? "When he had the big year in 2007, a lot of things went right for us," Savage said. "The offensive line played well, Jamal Lewis ran for a whole lot of yards, and Derek Anderson played well at quarterback. Braylon was the last link, and he needs that to be most effective.

Browns Players Cribbs, Heiden, Robiskie, Thomas Talk about Braylon Edwards Deal

Wide Receiver Josh Cribbs (On the Braylon Edwards trade) – “I was shocked. He’s a great friend of mine and teammate, since I’ve been here in Cleveland. It’s an unfortunate situation, but you have to move on. I wish him well on the rest of his NFL career.”
(On if Braylon is excited about going to New York) – “I’m not sure. I spoke with him briefly and he said he missed the group. He told me to keep balling. He gave me words of encouragement and I did the same to him.”
(On if he thought being traded was too harsh for what happened on Sunday) – “I’m not sure. I’m not sure if that had anything to do with it. The investigation is still on-going so I’m not sure if that had anything to do with that unfortunate situation.”
(On the fans perception that Edwards was bad for the team) – “I disagree. He’s a threat and that’s why teams double covered him every game. That is why teams account for him on the football field. If he wasn’t a good player they wouldn’t put a safety over top, underneath him in coverage. He has played his heart out every time he stepped on the field. I don’t have anything but good things to say about his effort.”
Derek Anderson Discusses Departed Browns WR Braylon Edwards

(On his reaction to the Braylon Edwards trade)- “Obviously this is a business and it’s the way things go. I appreciate everything Braylon did for me and this team. I wish him nothing but the best. I’m sure it’s the same for the guys here. We were here five years together, became good friends, he made a lot of plays for me. He was a guy that I trusted.”
(On if he is shocked by the trade)- “A little bit. I don’t think I’ve ever been on a team when we traded a guy in the middle of the year. Like I said, that’s the way it goes and we move on.”
(On what happened to Edwards after 2007)- “I don’t know. I can only wish him the best. I hope he gets things going again. He is a heck of a player. He has got a lot of football ahead of him.”
(On if he has talked to Edwards yet)- “Yes, I talked to him this morning.”
(On if Edwards expressed happiness about the trade)- “No, we both just wished each other the best. He wasn’t overly excited or anything. That was about it. I told him I appreciated everything that he’s done for me.”
Browns Should Make a Play to Acquire Marvin Harrison

The Cleveland Browns regain some faith in their fanbase today, shipping out malcontent receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Jets. The Browns could parlay the good sentiment surrounding the team if they make a move to acquire free agent Marvin Harrison.
Harrison, of course, is up in age (37) but still managed to haul in 60 passes for 636 yards for the Colts last season. In his career his numbers are Canton-worthy gaining over 14,000 yards on over 1,000 receptions. Harrison probably has a little bit left in his tank and could contribute on the field but, more importantly, could mentor young receivers Brian Robeskie and Mohamed Massaquoi. He may even be able turn special teams superstar Josh Cribbs into a NFL wide receiver with his tutelage.
Mangini Explains Browns Trade of Braylon Edwards to the Jets in Press Conference

(Opening statement)- “Good morning everybody. How are we doing today? As you know, we traded Braylon Edwards this morning to New York. Two of the players that are en route right now, one of them is Chansi Stuckey, who was starting for them. He had 11 catches and a touchdown. He played more in the slot for us last year. He is a smart guy, good quickness, good hands, very competitive. I think he is a guy that’s still developing as a pro and has done some really nice things in the early part of his career. Jason Trusnick is the other player. Jason is an Ohio native, went to Ohio Northern. Ended up signing [with the Jets] as a free agent. He has really come on as a contributor. He was AFC special teams player of the week, third week of the season, really contributed in that role. He plays both outside linebacker and inside linebacker and down some in sub. There were some draft choices for next year involved as well. I thought that, in looking at this, opportunities come up at different times, in looking at this opportunity, this was a really good thing for us and a good thing for Braylon. I wish him all the best.
“In terms of Buffalo, looking at them, I think this is, I’ve played Buffalo quite a few times, a little different look then what we’ve seen in the past. [They play] quite a bit in no huddle, almost exclusively in no huddle. They have some dynamic playmakers on offense, whether it’s Lee Evans, T.O. (Terrell Owens), Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed, right on down the line, two good backs, with Marshawn Lynch coming back. I don’t think they’ve scratched the surface with what they can do offensively. I think Trent Edwards is another guy that continues to improve and will continue to improve. I’ve seen him quite a bit over the years.
WR Chansi Stuckey, LB Jason Trusnik, and Draft Picks Coming to Browns

The AP is reporting that the Browns will receive wide receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik and undisclosed draft choices in exchange for troubled star Braylon Edwards. The Browns had been hoping to get a first and third round pick for the former Michigan star in the offseason but his value plummeted due to off the field issues including a fight on early Monday morning that saw a Cleveland man press charges on him for assault.
Stuckey has hauled in 11 passes for 120 this season for a TD in 3 starts and last year caught 32 passes in his first action in the NFL. Stuckey is 26 years old.
Braylon Edwards Traded to NY Jets Following Fight

Braylon Edwards has been shipped to the New York Jets following reports that the troubled wide reciever got into a fight at a nightclub on early Monday morning. ESPN first reported the trade this morning. No word out yet what the Browns will receive for the former star out of Michigan University.
Edwards has shown flashes of becoming a standout NFL receiver making the Pro Bowl in 2007 but the last two seasons have been nightmares both on and off the field. The 2008 season saw the former 3rd pick in the draft overall drop 20 passes and make headlines for speeding ticket in which he was clocked at 120 MPH. This season has been more of the same with dropped passes and a bad attitude and on Monday punched his ticket out of town with a fight with one of LeBron James' friends which made national headlines.
Browns a 6 Point Underdog Against Bills on Sunday

The Cleveland Browns will be underdogs in their fifth consecutive game on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. Las Vegas oddsmakers are spotting the Browns 6 points in the 1:00 showdown in Buffalo. The over/under for the contest has been set at 40.5 points.
The Bills come into the game reeling with a 1-3 record and coming off a blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins by the score of 38-10. The Dolphins exploited the Bills suspect run defense and were shut down on offense all day long in the defeat. The Browns, of course, have yet to win in four contests but showed signs of life in their overtime loss to in-state rival Cincinnati. It remains to be seen, however, what will happen to star Browns Braylon Edwards who could face discipline by the NFL for his role in a bar fight that left a man with a black eye and formal charges filed to the police department on Monday.
Eric Mangini Talks About Braylon Edwards in Monday Press Conference

(Opening statement)- “Good afternoon everybody. How are we doing? I would just like to say, I that know that there was an incident reported with Braylon Edwards and it is something I am aware of, something I spoke to Braylon about. Personal conduct is very important to me. I always want our players to put themselves in the most positive positions. This is something that I’ll continue to gather information on. Right now, I really have nothing else to add to that.
