Cavaliers Favored to Win Eastern Conference, Lakers Pegged to Repeat as NBA Champions

The NBA season tips-off today with the Eastern Conference titans Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics meeting at Quicken Loans Arena for a 7:30 start on TNT. The Cavaliers have been selected as favorites to win the Eastern Conference according to oddsmakers but the LA Lakers are currently the team to beat for the NBA Championship.

Prognosticators also expect big things out of our superstar LeBron James. King James has odds of 3-1 to win the MVP with Kobe Bryant right on his heels at 4-1 and Dwayne Wade at 6-1. Number one draft choice Blake Griffin is the early selection as Rookie of the Year at 2-1 with Stephen Curry at 5-1 to win newcomer of the year.

Here are the entire odds for the NBA Championship:

Wife Charges Delonte West With Domestic Violence

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Delonte West's bad year just got a lot worse. Delonte's wife is now charging him with domestic violence after he tried to to take her wedding ring off last night. Before boarding a flight from Cleveland, Mrs. West filed a domestic violence report.

The couple are said to be on the brink of divorce, which has been contributing to West's erratic behavior that includes a weapons charge and missed practices in recent months. In the latest incident, Mrs. West said the NBA star got physical in their apartment. Police didn't notice any visible injuries on her when the report was filed.

Ted Carper told 19 Action News, who broke the story, that the team would not comment on the story but did say they were aware of the situation.

David Stern Hopes LeBron James Stays in Cleveland and Says He May Be Best Ever

David Stern is officially a witness. The NBA Commissioner was asked a few questions about the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James for the Versus show The $ports Take and said:

He may be the best player ever to have played. Michael might dispute that, but he has a lot of canvas yet on which to paint. I have no doubt the picture is going to be beautiful.

You know, he hasn’t won anything yet but he may be the best player ever to descend to this planet. It’s a delight to watch him; it’s a delight to watch him grow, to see his width and breadth, in terms of his interest and capacities. He’s a great kid and a great player.

When asked about where he would like to see LeBron play in 2010-2011, Stern sounded like a man who wants to be able to show his face in Northeast Ohio by saying:

Shaq Gives Details on “Join Shaq Give Back” With Toys R Us

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Shaquille O'Neal gave details on his Join Shaq Give Back. He wrote this on his Facebook Page and tells you how you can help raise toys for children this holiday season:

Shaq-A-Claus Coming to Town as Shaq Gives Back

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Shaquille O'Neal has been known for his charity work for a long time. Last year while with the Phoenix Suns, Shaq hosted a food drive a Westlake church. O'Neal is back it again hosting an event called Shaq-A-Claus. The Cavaliers starting center is asking for your help on Facebook today saying:

Truth About Gilbert's Gambling Charges

Dan Gilbert, Cavs owner and seeker of a monopoly casino here, laughed off a question about a felony gambling charge against him at the City Club debate here today. He described it as a minor infraction by an 18-year old.

USA Today in 2005, however, described it as an $114,000 betting scheme on football and basketball games by Gilbert and others. He was a student at Michigan State University at the time. The charges, according to USA Today, were “conspiring to violate state gambling laws.” A spokesperson for the Cavs said at the times that shortly after, the charges were “completely dismissed.”

The paper said that Gilbert was given a fine, a three-year probation and community service. After this was completed, the felony charge was erased.

Yes, he was young. Yes, he had gambling charges against him.

Not a very good combination for someone as owner of an NBA team or a casino.

Cavs 2009-2010 Season Preview

I’m so excited, I might pass out. The Indians were awful this year, the Browns are, at best, a work in progress… but it’s Cavs time!!!! Woohoo!

Let’s get right to it. I’ll touch on each of the players currently on the roster by breaking it up into sections.

Aaaaaaand, go!

The Additions

Shaq. The Big Cuyahoga. He’s the biggest thing to happen in Cleveland since… well, LeBron actually. Having them both on the same team is ridiculous. No, Shaq is not the same guy he was with the Lakers, or even the Heat. But he is a force and he’s going to help the interior of the Cavs’ lineup on both ends of the floor. I also believe he still knows how to win championships and will bring that pedigree to a team desperate to win the big one.
