Trent Dilfer: Frye in Great Situation

Trent Dilfer, another former Cleveland Brown QB run out of town by the club, offered the latest causality of Browns lore his words of wisdom in phone call. Frye, speaking to the Seattle Post Intelligencer said:

"Trent thinks this is going to be a great situation for me, and that's a guy I really look up to," Frye said. "That being said, I'm really excited about the situation I'm in."

Now the goal for Frye is to learn the Seahawks offensive terminology.

"We're learning the new language first," quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn on the transition "It's hard to know what he's going to be able to do early until he learns the language that we speak."

Frye will now be the third string quarterback on the Seahawks. He is behind Pro-Bowl QB Matt Hassleback and all purpose QB, who also plays a little receiver, Seneca Wallace.

Belichick Patriots Punished Severely By NFL: Lose Draft Pick and 750K Fine!

The New England Patriots won't be filming any body's signals for a long, long time. The NFL dropped the hammer on the franchise and head coach Bill Belichick today. The league levied the highest fine possible, $500K, on Belichick, as well as a $250K fine for the team, and took away the teams first round draft pick this year provided they make playoffs. If they fail to make the playoffs, the team loses its second and third round picks this year.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell released this statement

"I specifically considered whether to impose a suspension on Coach Belichick," Goodell wrote. "I have determined not to do so, largely because I believe that the discipline I am imposing of a maximum fine and forfeiture of a first-round draft choice, or multiple draft choices, is in fact more significant and long-lasting, and therefore more effective, than a suspension."

"This episode represents a calculated and deliberate attempt to avoid longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field," Goodell wrote in a letter to the Patriots.

Mangini Used to be Belichick's Partner in Crime

'How The (NFL) World Turns'. The "spygate" soap opera has a new twist. Apparently, current Jets coach Eric Mangini, used to enjoy the competitive advantage that Bill Belichick provided by video taping signals. I can hear John Kerry right now saying "Mangini was for video taping signals before he was against it".

So, Mangini turning in Belichick is kind of like Jose Canseco turning in Mark McGwire or Barry Bonds.

The New York Daily News had an anonymous quote with someone with inside info. Here is what they told the paper:

"(The Jets) knew they did it," the person with knowledge of the situation said in an e-mail to the Daily News. "They caught the guy a year ago, but couldn't do anything about it. When Eric came, he said that's what they used to do. Bill is going to be (ticked) at Eric. He kissed and told."

It sounds like Mangini was mad that the New York Jets got their butts kicked on Sunday and wanted to get some kind of morale victory out of it to me.

Bill Belichick Apologizes, Meets with NFL Commissioner

Coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots apologized to his team Wednesday, confirming that he spoke with NFL Comissioner Roger Goodell about his "interpretation" of league rules that ban videotaping of the opposing sideline. However, it was unclear exactly what Belichick was apologizing for as he refused to elaborate on a 1 paragraph statement issued before a regularly scheduled news conference.

The statement said:

"At this point, we have not been notified of the league's ruling. Although it remains a league matter, I want to apologize to everyone who has been affected, most of all ownership, staff and players. Following the league's decision, I will have further comment."

The statement also said that Belicheck met with Roger Goodell this week about what he referred to as a "videotaping prodedure" during last Sunday's game and his "interpretation of the rules."

After only 15 minutes of talking about Sunday's game, reporters began to press Belichick harder about the videotaping incident. The coach was, however, none too pleased and left the room.

Miracles Do Happen: Bills' Kevin Everett Will Walk Again

Buffalo Bills' tight end Kevin Everett was paralyzed during a game just two days ago, and it was just yesterday that doctors dubbed his condition as potentially life-threatening. Few were expecting a positive outcome following the shocking injury, but it appears now that miracles do in fact happen: Everett was moving both of his arms and legs on Tuesday.

Following the injury to his spine, Everett received emergency surgery. Andrew Cappuccino, the doctor who performed the surgery, has said that Everett's condition had "improved." And yet another doctor, Barth Green, who consulted with Dr. Cappuccino, said Tuesday that Everett could eventually walk out of the hospital.

“Kevin Everett is moving his arms and legs, his legs stronger than his arms. He’s moving them both to a point, to a degree that he will end up walking. He will walk out of the hospital.”

That's a miraculous turn-around from Monday, when Cappuccino placed his odds of a complete recovery as unlikely and between 5 to 10%.

Everett, 25, was paralyzed from the shoulders down and was stated as being in life threatening condition following a collision during Sunday night's game against the Denver Broncos, a 15-14 loss.

Although he should now be able to walk, it is still not likely that Everett will ever return to professional football. But at least he will not be confined to a wheelchair.

Former Buckeye Orlando Pace Out for the Year

The St Louis Rams, and former Ohio State Buckeye, Orlando Pace has been knocked out of the season after just one game this year. The All-Pro Tackle has a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Pace was coming off a year that ended in surgery and the former first pick overall (1997) career could be in jeopardy.

"I think it's too soon to say what implications there are for his future," Coach Scott Linehan said. "I would think it's all up to the mind-set of Orlando and how he responds to another recovery to a season-ending injury."

Pace has been a Pro-Bowl tackle 7 times was a driving force in the Rams Super Bowl XXXIV victory. His number 76 has been retired at Sandusky High School and was so good at Ohio State that he was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate.
