Jets' Shaun Ellis Fined for Throwing Snowball in Stands After Sunday Loss
The National Football League has fined New York Jets' defensive end Shaun Ellis $10,000 for throwing a large chunk of snow into the stands after their 13-3 loss to the Seahawks in Seattle this past Sunday.
Seattle fans threw snowballs at Jets players and staff on the sidelines during the game. Eric Mangini and several players said that the situation was unsafe.
Ellis said Tuesday, "It was all in fun."
Mangini said, "That situation in the stadium in general was not a very safe situation for anybody involved. That doesn't justify us getting involved in it on the flip side of that. He understands that. We thought there could have been more done to prevent what was happening in terms of the safety from snowballs coming down."
Video of Ellis throwing the snow was captured on a cellphone, and the video was posted online Monday. It doesn't appear that anyone was hurt in the video.
Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid and QB Donovan McNabb Talk Browns
Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid press conference 12-11-08
(On the bond formed with Donovan McNabb over the last decade)- “Wow, that sounds like a long time, doesn’t it? He makes it very easy because he’s such a great person. We all know he’s a great player but he’s even a better person. He’s not real tough to work with, he can spoil you as a head coach or a position coach. He’s got great leadership ability so he’s kind of got it all.”
(On Hank Fraley)- “Hank was one of my favorite guys. Hank gives everything he has every play but that’s part of the National Football League. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Hank and he did a great job for us here. We were able to win a lot games with Hank Fraley at that center position, that’s a very important position.”
(On Brian Westbrook)- “He’s a valuable guy. You’ve got to manage all that, I think you see that around the league with people using more than one running back. We’ve been banged up there just a little there at that position so we rolled a bunch of different guys in there. When (Correll) Buck(halter) is healthy we normally get a pretty good rotation going in there.”
Police Investigate NY Giants Over Cover-Up in Burress Shooting Incident
Top bosses at the Giants admitted Wednesday that they knew Plaxico Burress had accidentally shot himself within minutes after it happened. The only trouble is, the team didn't report the incident to police for at least eight hours. And as team execs tried to distance themselves from the coverup of Saturday's nightclub shooting, investigators are turning up the pressure, indicating that they will subpoena cell phone records from Burress and teammate Antonio Pierce.
The teak acknowledged that Pierce, who was with Burress, called Ronnie Barnes, the team's vice president of medical services, just moments after Plaxico's illegal gun accidentally went off around 1:50am at the Latin Quarter.
Barnes reportedly told Pierce to have Burress rushed to the New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center. He arrived there just after 2am, said the team in a statement. THe said that they wanted Burress near the Hospital for Special Surgery, which is next door to New York Presbyterian.
Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher and QB Kerry Collins Talk Cleveland Browns
Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher press conference 12-3-08
(On Chris Johnson)- “We saw things pre-draft that we felt like he was going to be able to come in and contribute. We’re not surprised by anything that he’s done, we saw those kinds of things on tape and we’re pleased right now. His teammates around him have helped him off to a great start as a rookie running back in this league. He’ll block, he’ll catch, he’s productive without the ball and then when we get the ball in his hand, he’s got tremendous speed to make big plays.”
(On any lingering effects after the Titans’ first loss of the season)- “Well we lost at home on Sunday at about 3:15 and had to come back and play Thursday. We put it in perspective, we didn’t play well in the area and we didn’t coach well and we put it in perspective and just moved on. We’ve been taking a one-week approach all year and you take that same approach regardless of the outcome on Sunday. I was very pleased and proud of their ability to get re-focused and prepared mentally more so than physically and go out and find a way to beat Detroit three days later.”
Colts Discuss Escaping Cleveland with Victory Over Browns

(Opening statement) – “Well, it was a big win for us and they are all tough to get. It seems like every time we come to Cleveland, it comes down to the last play. I thought we had a lot of guys step up and make big plays when we needed them. We had some injuries and our defenders had to play different positions. All in all, I thought we did a good job. The defense made some big plays in the second half. That is what winning football is all about - contributions from different guys and the key is to come away with a win.”
(On putting pressure on the quarterback) – “Teams have been throwing the ball fast against us. We’ve been playing a lot of three-man rush to take away some of those passing lanes. When we had to get the pressure today, we did. Our rush has been timely, is a good way to put it.”
(On the defensive sacks) – “It is partly because our guys are anticipating speed rushes. We knew we might be able to get some bull-rushes on the Browns. Both of our sacks ended up being because of the bull-rushes. That can be effective when the other team is floating on you a little bit.”
Plaxico Burress Accidentally Shot in the Leg at Nightclub
New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was accidentally shot in the leg at a night club. According to both Fox Sports and ESPN.com, the wound is not life threatening, but Buress did spend the night in the hospital.
It has not been revealed what nightclub the shooting took place at.
Giants' team spokesman Pat Halon said "I don't have anything for you at this stage," as the team left for a flight to Washington for a Sunday game against the Redskins.
NFL spokesman Joe Browne said, "We are gathering information, just like everyone else."
Former Buckeyes and St Ignatius Star Anthony Gonzalez Talks About Playing Hometown Team
(On playing in Cleveland)- “I’m sure there will be some emotion to it. Right now, I’m trying to just focus on the Colts and the fact that we’re fighting for a wild card spot and trying to do the things that we do. That being said, I am going to Cleveland, I’m going to see my family, I’m going to my parents house on Saturday. That will be nice and I just remember playing in the Hall of Fame game and it’s a little bit special to be in Ohio again.”
(On St. Ignatius being in the state finals)- “That’s awesome, I wish I could go but we’ve got our own business to take care of. I’ll be watching on TV though and I couldn’t be prouder of them. I actually got to go to my first Ignatius game earlier in the year. They were playing in Dayton and I swung over for the game. They’re excited, I know, and the school’s excited and everybody is into it so hopefully they can win number ten.”
