American Al Qaeda Member Arrested in Pakistan Was Not Adam Gadahn

On Sunday, an American member of Al Qaeda was arrested in a raid in the southern Pakistan city of Karachi. However, unlike initial reports suggested, the individual arrested was not the terrorist group's American-born spokesman, Adam Gadahn.
The suspect detained is in fact an American, but has been identified as Abu Yahya Majadin Adam. Officials have not given any details about his background or his role within Al Qaeda.
A similar name is listed in the FBI's web site as an alias for Adam Gadahn, and the resemblence seems to have created some confusion among officials. At first officials believed the suspect was Gadahn, a 31-year-old spokesman who has appeared in several videos threatening the United States and the West since 2001. In the United States, Gadahn is wanted on charges of treason and for materially supporting the terrorist network.
An intelligence officer in Pakistan said:
American Al-Qaeda Member Adam Gadahn Arrested in Pakistan After Releasing Video Calling for Muslims to Attack the US
After releasing a video on Sunday praising the Fort Hood shootings and calling for Muslims to attack the United States, Adam Gadahn was arrested Pakistan in the southern port city of Karachi. A native of Southern California, Gadahn became a top propagandist for Al-Qaeda and was wanted in the U.S. on treason charges.
Sources in Karachi said that Gadan was arrested in a pickup truck with a driver Saturday night. Pakistani police and intelligence agents said that they collaborated on the arrest after they received information about Gadahn's whereabouts.
According to an American counter-terrorism official, the CIA and other agencies were "looking into reports" of his capture, but could not yet confirm his arrest. Speaking on conditions of anonymity, the official said:
"If reports of a major terrorist capture are true, it would signal the Pakistanis' continuing commitment to fighting extremism."
American Al-Qaeda Member Praises Fort Hood Shooter & Calls for More Attacks; Wanted by the FBI
Adam Gadahn was raised in California, but his loyalties lie not with the United States, but rather, with his Muslim friends in the Middle East. In an online video, Gadahn described Major Nidal Hasan, the perpetrator of the Fort Hood shootings, as a pioneer who should serve as a role model for other Muslims in the U.S. in the video, he urges Muslims to carry out attacks against U.S. and Western targets.
In the video, Gadahn says:
“Brother Nidal is the ideal role-model for every repentant Muslim in the armies of the unbelievers and apostate regimes. You shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that military bases are the only high-value targets in America and the West. On the contrary, there are countless other strategic places, institutions and installations which, by striking, the Muslim can do major damage. Nidal Hasan is a pioneer, a trailblazer and a role-model who has opened a door, lit a path and shown the way forward for every Muslim who finds himself among the unbelievers. I am calling on every honest and vigilant Muslim in the countries of the Zionist-Crusader alliance in general and America, Britain and Israel in particular to prepare to play his due role in responding to and repelling the aggression of the enemies of Islam.”
British Spies Say Al-Qaeda Now Plans to Use Surgical Bombs

Because hiding bombs in one's underwear didn't work, and airport screening is beginning to get tougher, British spies report that they've found evidence that al Qaeda is planning to insert "surgical bombs" inside people for the first time. Female bombers would have them implanted inside their breasts and male bombers would have the explosive implanted near their appendix or in their buttocks.
The British intelligence agency MI5 said that it believes that the new development was triggered by the introduction of body scanners at airports. It reports that it first got notice of the threat from increasingly vocal "chatter" on Arab web sites.
Apparently, this is how the surgical bomb devices would work:
The explosive PETN (pentaerythritol tetranitrate) would be placed in a plastic sachet inside the bomber's body before the wound is stitched up like a normal surgical incision and allowed to heal. The explosive would be detonated by the bomber using a hypodermic syringe to inject TATP (triacetone triperoxide) through his or her skin into the sachet.
Osama bin Laden: An Environmentalist?

Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the US dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming. In a new audio tape released Friday, the al-Qaeda leader also warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.
Bin Laden further blamed Western industrialized nations for more of the world's problems, including hunger, desertification and floods across the world. He has called for "drastic solutions" to slow global warming, and "not solutions that partially reduce the effect of climate change."
This is not the first time that bin Laden has mentioned global warming and climate change, but this newest tape was his first dedicated to the topic. The speech contains no Islamic messages, and is considered by some to be an attempt to give his message appeal beyond just Islamic militants.
Bin Ladne has also called for the boycott of American products and an end to the dollar's domination as a world currency. He said:
Osama bin Laden Claims Responsibility for Christmas Bombing Attempt

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has claimed responsibility for the attempted airline bombing on Christmas day in Detroit. Bin Laden claimed responsibility for the failed attack in an audio message released Sunday, and vows further attacks on the United States.
In the message, bin Laden suggests that he wants to show the world that he remains in direct command of the extremist Muslim group's many branches throughout the world.
The recording was aired on the Al-Jazeera news channel, and in it bin Laden directly addressed President Barack Obama, saying that the attack was similar to that of September 11 and that more attacks would be coming. He said:
“The message delivered to you through the plane of the heroic warrior Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a confirmation of the previous messages sent by the heroes of the Sept. 11.
America will never dream of security unless we will have it in reality in Palestine. God willing, our raids on you will continue as long as your support for the Israelis continues.”

Internet Postings Surface From Suspected Nigerian Plane Bomber

We are starting to learn more about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab who is charged with trying to bomb a flight in route to Detroit on Christmas Day. The Washington Post today uncovered 300 internet messages from the the Nigerian native who was working for al qaeda. Here is a snippet of the report:
"I have no one to speak too [sic]," read a posting from January 2005, when Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was attending boarding school. "No one to consult, no one to support me and I feel depressed and lonely. I do not know what to do. And then I think this loneliness leads me to other problems."
