Maui Jim on the Golf Course
By Justin Meiser. Published on 08/07/2011 - 4:58pmI've gone through many a pair of sunglasses over the years and although Maui Jim is certainly not a new brand, I had never given them a shot. Until about a month ago. I've worn all kinds of "high quality" and "designer" shades ranging from Ray Ban and Oakley to Prada and Burberry. While there isn't necessarily anything "wrong" with some of them, I can honestly say that they don't compare to Maui Jim in terms of quality, design, comfort, and customer service.
While the design and comfort are truly outstanding, to me, what sets these sunglasses apart are the lenses. There is literally a night and day difference between Maui Jim's technology and quality and you truly have to see it to believe it. I'd heard by word of mouth that their lenses were truly amazing and for years I brushed it off. Sunglasses are sunglasses, right? Wrong. And I plan to do my best to explain why in this and future pieces.
Restaurant Review: Market Garden Brewery
By Hector Caraballo. Published on 07/01/2011 - 2:01pm
The Warehouse District's decline is West 25th's gain as Ohio City adds another new watering hole; the Market Garden Brewery opens for business. The proprietor of the already established Bier Market adds their own take on the crowded but crowd pleasing micro-brewed bar scene. Located directly on the corner adjacent to the West Side Market, this absolutely spacious bar boasts a magnificent half wrap around patio. The crown jewel being a faux wood styled picnic area that wisely faces away from the main thoroughfare and seems like it would make for a quiet peaceful retreat on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, this strength of design becomes like a lighthouse beacon casting its glaring beam onto its most obvious failing; they have barely anything to eat!

Restaurant Review – Rivals
By Lisa Naab. Published on 07/07/2010 - 4:41pm
Rivals might have a corny theme-menu but the specials and food served more than make up for it. Perhaps you recall Instant Replay at this Middleburg Hts. location but Rivals has made it a home now for several years. When you first enter, the atmosphere might throw you but don’t let it. The dark tablecloths and paper menus immediately give it a dank, cheap bar feeling but a second look around will show you the place is clean and well organized. The front bar area gets loud but there are two dining rooms where you can chat pleasantly - one even has a fireplace. This is a sports bar at heart so you’ll find TVs everywhere but they aren’t intrusive. The servers are happy to change stations so you’ll be entertained, even if you’re date is a bore.
Playhouse Square Review: August: Osage County
By Heather Bing. Published on 04/19/2010 - 7:17pm
My first play of 2010 is one I will never forget—no matter how hard I try.
August: Osage County, which opened at Playhouse Square on Tuesday, April 13, is a harsh, dark look into a middle-class Oklahoma family that struggles with every possible infliction a group of people might suffer—suicide, alcoholism, drug abuse, adultery, incest and more. From the first chaotic introduction of the Weston Family to the final heart-wrenching look at the family’s remains, my emotions were on edge and my mind was racing to keep up with each twist and turn in the plot.
Film Review – 9500 Liberty
By Candis_Hecking. Published on 03/22/2010 - 4:23pmIn 2007 Prince William County Virginia adopted a law requiring police officers to question anyone they have "probably cause" to suspect is an undocumented immigrant. Annabel Park and Eric Byler produced an interactive documentary around the citizens and the local government of Manassas, Virginia titled 9500 Liberty.
The population of immigrants was growing rapidly in the town of Manassas and the residents began to fight for deportation of these immigrants. They targeted their local government in hopes of passing a law requiring police to check if a resident was an illegal alien. One local resident, Greg Letiecq started a blog called "Save Mannassas" which gained many followers. When the law passed others began to fight to reverse it.
Film Review – Turtle: The Incredible Journey
By Candis_Hecking. Published on 03/20/2010 - 9:39pm
Did you know all loggerhead turtles begin their lives by being buried alive? I learned many things about loggerhead turtles at the Cleveland International Film Festival.
"Turtle" is a true story about the remarkable journey of a loggerhead turtle, now named Feebee. Loggerhead turtles begin their lives being buried alive and spend 3 days emerging from the sand. They quickly try to make their way from land to water scurrying past predators. During the film Feebee travels from a Florida beach across the North Atlantic until she reaches Africa. Only 25 years later she returns to her birth place in Florida to lay her eggs. Only one in ten thousand turtles survive this journey.
Event Review: Ix Center Hosting The Fabulous Food Show
By Brandon Davis. Published on 11/18/2008 - 3:44pmThe Fabulous Food Show was held at the I-X Center this past weekend, November 14-16. This annual culinary event hosted several popular celebrity chefs, as well as over 150 different food exhibitors. There were many free samples being handed out, and also a wine a beer tasting event.
One of the celebrity chefs, Curtis Stone, put on live demonstration of his cooking talents. It was very entertaining, keeping the entire crowd involved throughout the feature, and even allowed several people from the audience to go onstage and help. The atmosphere and crowd involvement helped to form this show which was definitely not the typical culinary performance.
The exhibitors had many booths set up in aisles that ran throughout the I-X Center. Some local companies and many others more widespread were lined up together to show and sample their product to the visitors.
Bubba's Bar-B-Q & Catering is a local, and world famous restaurant named for Al "Bubba" Baker, , the former Cleveland Brown. This bbq featured samples of their food and handed out pamphlets for the restaurant which included a menu and the location of the establishment.
