Hot This Season: Knee-High Boots
Submitted by Julie on November 19, 2007 - 9:35pm. While knee-high boots are a staple in many women's fall and winter wardrobes, the trend this year has been turned up a notch. From flat-heels to stilettos, wedges, and platforms, boots are everywhere. Don't believe me? Go to any half-way populated city and head over to the "downtown" area, or even the mall. You'll find lots of women wearing boots of all colors, heel-sizes, and shapes.
The hottest boot to own this winter, however, are the flats and riding boots. So if you've already got a pair of heeled boots, but want to change it up a bit, pick up a pair of flats and you'll have two stylish choices to choose from to mix things up.
While ordering shoes online is fun and tempting, when it comes to boots, you're probably best off actually going to the stores and trying them on. Due to varying calf and ankle sizes, finding the perfect pair of boots may actually be a more difficult task than finding the perfect pair of jeans. Too tight in the calves is uncomfortable, and having them too lose looks sloppy. So its best to just avoid having to deal with online returns, and just go to your favorite mall or store and see what they have in stock. However, if you must order online, I'd suggest checking out PiperLime - they've got free shipping and free returns.
This Winter, Green is the New Black
Submitted by Julie on November 7, 2007 - 7:44pm.
The Chanel black satin nail polish that's been all the rage for the past year or so is about to take a back seat to the latest craze in nail color. The next hot trend in nails is NARS' new limited edition shade called "Zulu".
Not only is the dark green shade holiday worthy, but it's also being made available in very limited supplies and only to certain people. Sephora is the only retailer who will be carrying the limited edition polish, and you have to be a Sephora Beauty Insider to get one. But even being a Sephora Beauty Insider won't guarantee that you'll be able to snag one. The polish has reportedly already sold out, and now if you want a bottle of the coveted green stuff, you'll have to add your name to their waiting list online.
2007's List of Most Popular Halloween Costumes
Submitted by Julie on October 26, 2007 - 1:36pm.
This year, princesses once again took the crown as the top costume choice for kids (10.7%), with Spider-Man following in second (4.8%). The third most popular costume, a pirate (4.7%), is undoubtedly inspired by the hit "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies. Fourth and fifth place go to age-old Halloween standards, a witch (4.2%) and fairy (2.8%) respectively.
Television shows and movies are once again the inspiration for many hot children's costumes. One new addition to the list this year is Disney's Hannah Montana, who comes in at 23rd on the list, immediately followed by everyone's favorite boy wizard Harry Potter.
But Halloween isn't just for kids! Nearly 60% of consumers are planning celebrating Halloween in some way or another, which means many adults will be joining in the revelry themselves. One-third of adults (33.8%) will dress in a costume this year, and of those almost three-quarters (74.8%) already had a costume in mind last month. The top five choices for adults were all a bit more traditional: witch (16.9%), pirate (3.8%), vampire (3.1%), cat (2.5%), and princess (3.8%). Other adult favorites include Star Wars characters (1.2%), doctor (0.9%), and an athlete (1.0%).
Summer's Craziest Shoe Fad Likely to Carry Over Through Winter
Submitted by Julie on October 9, 2007 - 9:06pm. With the colder temperatures creeping in, that means morning frost, damp grass, and even a little snow isn't too far off. Fans of the ugliest shoes on earth, a.k.a. Crocs, who thought that they might have to give up their comfy shoes in favor of more season-appropriate footwear can now take comfort in Crocs' latest creation: fur-lined Crocs.
The fashion world and anyone else with even a modicum of style, however, will now have to endure yet another season of the eye-sore shoes. The landfills that will one day be filled with unwanted Crocs (once the fad passes), also collectively weep.
Hoping to cash in with the colder weather, Croc is now introducing a waterproof, fur-lined version of the popular rubbery shoe called the "mammoth". It's expected to be a smash-hit, quickly surpassing sales of the wintertime rival Ugg-boot. If there's more than a couple inches of snow, however, these shoes aren't going to do you a bit of good, so Crocs better get working on a "boot" version fast.
If the temperature heats up unexpectedly, wearers of the furry Crocs can take out the removable lining. The shoes are also available in more autumn-friendly colors, including khaki, oatmeal, sky blue, chocolate and black.

Get Your Mini Skirts Out - Mod is Back in Fashion
Submitted by Julie on September 15, 2007 - 3:15pm.The 60's are hot again, with mod-style clothing coming back into fashion this fall season. From top designers Michael Kors to Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and countless others, the season's hottest look is easy to nab as your own.
Here's some of the key pieces you'll need for a great mod-inspired fall wardrobe:
Mini skirts and mini dresses - Hem-lines are taking a hike up higher this fall. Long and flowing is definitely out in favor of shorter, more fitted styles. Get them in solid colors or fun prints.

Shift Dresses & Graphic Prints - Funky prints, and pretty fitted shift dresses are all the rage. Just make sure you iron out the wrinkles or you'll ruin this simple, yet bold look.

Peacoats & Trenchcoats - These cute jackets bring polish to any outfit, featuring large buttons and crisp cuts. You can even wear them with jeans!

Ankle Boots - Get them in black and wear them with everything! The most popular styles are available in leather and suede, and a range of heel sizes.
Bridal Gowns Go High-Fashion for 2008
Submitted by Julie on September 12, 2007 - 3:27pm.
Bridal Week and bridal fashion shows are typically treated by the fashion world as a somewhat lesser event than other big events, such as NY Fashion Week. Afterall, there's only so much white a person can take, and after awhile all the gowns just start to look the same.
But judging by the designs that were shown off last week for the spring 2008 bridal collections, next year's gowns are going to be a little more high-fashion that we're used to. The standard lace and satin pieces are taking a backseat to more out-there creations including off-the-shoulder dresses, pleats, ruffles, and even some pastels.
As if the hunt for the perfect wedding dress wasn't already a big enough ordeal...
