Top Fashion Designer Alexander McQueen Commits Suicide

British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead after he took his own life. A source at the designer's office today confirmed his death.

The 40-year-old committed suicide just three years after his close friend Isabella Blow, the woman who helped him become a major star in the fashion world, killed herself. His death also comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week, and only weeks before he was set to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9.

Born the youngest son of a taxi driver, the openly gay McQueen got his training in tailoring in Savile Row and eventually wound up making suits for Prince Charles and Mikhail Gorbachev. He also had the distinction of being named British Designer of the year four times between 1996 and 2003. He also won the CBE, and was named Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards.

After a stint at Savile Row, he went on to work at Gieves & Hawkes, and then worked in both Japan and Italy. McQueen returned to London in 1994 with aspirations of working as a pattern cutter tutor at London's Central Saint Martins fashion school. He was pursuaded to enroll in the course himself, and after graduating he set up his own label on the East End of London.

Photos of Upcoming Lebron James Nike Shoes Leaked; Featuring Lots of New York Love

There's no denying that superstar Cleveland Cavaliers forward Lebron James loves New York. The first tip-off to Clevelanders was the infamous wearing of the New York Yankees cap at an Indians playoff game. Since then, he's wasted no time reminding us all of just how much he loves NY, all while denying the ever-rampant rumors that he will be packing up and heading to the Big Apple when his contract in Cleveland expires at the end of this season. Leaked photos of an upcoming release of the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Low shoes send a clear message of love for NY, not the home of Rock n Roll or the town that supported him since his pre-NBA days.

This season, Nike also revealed the Nike Air Max LeBron VII Hardwood Classic edition shoes, which to those unfamiliar with Cavs history and their former colors, might look like Knicks-themed shoes. But nope, the old Cavs used to sport jerseys that were bright blue with the orange block-letter Cavs, and since Lebron actually wore them with the old throwback jersey, little else was read into it.

Lily Allen Quitting Music to Open Boutique & Start Record Label

Over the past year, Lily Allen has made several comments about quitting the music business. It appears she's back at it, telling a UK radio station that she will quit music for two years to open up a boutique.

Lily has shown an interest in the world of fashion, having designed a collection for new look, launching a range of jewelry, and now acting as the face of Chanel. This morning on Radio 1, Lily told Sara Cox that she and her sister plan to open up a store called Lucy in Disguise. The idea is to make designer clothes accessible to regular folks. Shoppers can come in, pick and outfit and rent it.

While she may be on hiatus from performing for the next two years, she won't be out of the music business completely. She also apparently has plans to start up her own record label.

New Beatles Gear Released Just in Time for the Holidays

2009 has been a big year for the The Beatles with the launch of their remastered albums, The Beatles Rock Band video game, and now, a designer clothing collection inspired by the band. Comme des Garçons collection launches on Black Friday, November 27 at CDG's London and Tokyo stores and will expand internationally next year. As always, this gear doesn't come cheap but will likely have a huge appeal to Beatles fanatics.

The collection includes a line of 10 PVC travel bags, 4 button-down shirts, and five Beatles concert-style t-shirts. On the low-end of the price scale, the t-shirts start at $115. The most expensive piece in the collection is an $860 PVC bag. If you're wondering why the bags are made of PVC and not leather, it's because a stipulation to not use leather was a part of the deal.

Designer Rei Kawakubo has access to all of the Beatles iconography -including logos and photos - thanks to a deal with Apple Corp, but said that she didn't want to make "any unnecessary items that may in time come to resemble a Beatles sourvenir shop." To achieve this goal, she took the iconic Apple log and put it alongside her signature polka dots to make "strong, conceptual" items.

Emanuel Ungaro Thinks Lindsay Lohan's Fashion Collaboration is a Disaster

Upon seeing the pictures from Lindsay Lohan's first collection as Ungaro's "artistic adviser", Emanuel Ungaro was far from pleased. Ungaro sold the fashion house that shares his name in 2005 and hasn't had any contact with the label since then. At a film festival in Lisbon, he was asked what he thought about the collection.

Ungar said:

"Lindsay Lohan's collaboration was a disaster. I am furious but I can't do anything about it. Ungaro is in the process of losing its soul. That happens to a lot of designers. We were the creators and patrons, responsible for the creation and destiny of our houses. But when we gave up our houses, we gave up our souls."

Well, at least they didn't pay her. Rumor is, she works for them for free.

Instead of looking to their wrists to find out the time, today many people instead pull out their cell phones which are synced with satellites and are more likely to be accurate. Watches, however, still have a very special place in the digital age. While they still tell us the time, watches now are more of a status piece than ever. They are a reflection of our personal style and wealth, and a great accessory to polish up almost any outfit. Finding the perfect watch can be quite a chore. Recently, we were introduced to Michele Watches, which offers watches in both men's and women's styles and are seen on the wrists of Hollywood starlets to business professionals and everyone else in between.

Michele Watches was founded by Jack Barouh, the son of a German watchmaker, Maurice Barouh, who passed on his passion for quality craftsmanship and an expression of style to his son. Michele Watches was launched with the birth of Jack's first child, Michele. At first they created children's watches and expanded from there.
