Event Review: Ix Center Hosting The Fabulous Food Show

The Fabulous Food Show was held at the I-X Center this past weekend, November 14-16. This annual culinary event hosted several popular celebrity chefs, as well as over 150 different food exhibitors. There were many free samples being handed out, and also a wine a beer tasting event.

One of the celebrity chefs, Curtis Stone, put on live demonstration of his cooking talents. It was very entertaining, keeping the entire crowd involved throughout the feature, and even allowed several people from the audience to go onstage and help. The atmosphere and crowd involvement helped to form this show which was definitely not the typical culinary performance.

The exhibitors had many booths set up in aisles that ran throughout the I-X Center. Some local companies and many others more widespread were lined up together to show and sample their product to the visitors.

Bubba's Bar-B-Q & Catering is a local, and world famous restaurant named for Al "Bubba" Baker, , the former Cleveland Brown. This bbq featured samples of their food and handed out pamphlets for the restaurant which included a menu and the location of the establishment.

The Cleveland Comedy Fest Takes Place This Weekend

It's gray and gloomy and the economy still sucks, which means it's a great time for all of us to take some time out to laugh. This weekend the perfect diversion is taking place in Cleveland - the first annual Cleveland Comedy Festival. It starts today, November 7, and goes through Sunday November 9.

The festival features local comedic talent, some of whom are already famous and others that are on their way. All of them are sure to make you laugh, and the schedule of events is jam-packed with a number of great shows and events including:




This Weekend: Dinner & A Murder Mystery in Cleveland

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, and are tired of the old staples, why not try something new and exciting? This weekend, Earth Night Club located on the East Bank of the Flats will play host to "Chapter 32 Mafia Murder Mystery".

This particular murder mystery is set in 1932, and attendees are encouraged to dress the part as either a gangster or flapper. Tickets to the event cost just $50, and includes:

* Chicken Marsala Dinner
* Cocktail Drink Ticket
* City Wide Events Biz Bag
* Prize for #1 Detective

Participating in this fun event will also help a good cause. A miniumum of 8% of ticket sales and 100% of raffle and silent auction items will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The event is sponsored by City Wide Events, and the interactive play's producer is Paul Floriano. Local actors helping to put on the show include James Mango, Curtis Young, Tara Ann Lundy, Dave DeVito, Pasquali Dimasa, Sylvia, amongst others.

Cocktails and mafia trivia will begin at 6:00PM, and at 7:00PM dinner will be served. How long the murder mystery will last depends on the attendees and their detective skills.

American Greetings 29th Annual Fine Lines Art Show This Weekend

The 29th annual Fine Lines Art Show presented by American Greetings opens tonight. The event runs until August 8th and will have 80 pieces of artwork on display. The event kickis off with Brazilian jazz musician Moises Borges will provide entertainment providing entertainment tonight.

Drew Carey Joins Cleveland Orchestra Saturday Night

Drew Carey has been asked to "come on down" to join The Cleveland Orchestra on Saturday. The 'Price is Right' host will join group to help narrate Shakespear's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. The event is the first time that Carey has joined the Orchestra. The Blossom show starts at 8 pm and tickets can be purchased by calling (216) 231-1111 or 800-686-1141.

Chubby Checker Twists Act Into Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Tonight

Rock n Roll legend Chubby Checker, best known for the 1960 hit 'The Twist', starts his tour tonight in Cleveland at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. The tour then heads to 12 cities throughout the country. Checker is promoting his career retrospective 'All the Best, Chubby Checker' double cd which was released yesterday.

Checker's career included five one million selling records which were 'The Twist', 'Pony Time', 'Slow Twistin', 'Let's Twist Again', and 'Limbo Rock'. 'The Twist' has remained popular through the decades and the 66 year old performed the hit at the Daytona 500's opening ceremonies this year to introduce a brand new generation to the song.

Tonight's show includes an autograph session which Checker will sign his latest CD. The show is scheduled for 6:30.

Puerto Rican Parade & Festival Being Held Downtown July 18-20

It's that time of year again for the Puerto Rican Parade & Festival. The Festival is being held at the Downtown Muni lot over the weekend of July 18-20th. The festival will be held on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 with the parade highlighting the weekends activities on Sunday.

This is the 40th Anniversary of the Puerto Rican Parade & Latino Fest. A free, family oriented festival. It serves to highlight and immerse everyone in rich tropical music, foods, folklore, and splendor. Enjoy the carnival rides, live music & cultural entertainment.

Cult Favorite Canadian Band Sloan Back In Town Sunday

Veteran rock band Sloan is making another stop in Cleveland on Sunday. The band, a four-piece that has been around since the earlier 90's, are promoting their latest release 'Parallel Play' which was released by Yep Rock earlier this month.

Having seen them countless times, the show is highly recommended. The band plays a great show, as the members switch instruments, all sing, and have a lively stage presence. Their cult-like fans add to the excitement as the majority of the crowd will sing along to many of their Canadian radio hits.

London Based Switches a Band to Catch on the Nylon Summer Music Tour

Although the crowd was small at the House of Blues on Friday, June 6, the Switches made the best of the situation and performed enthusiastically as their infectious energy spread amongst the concert goers. The band from London, England rocked the Nylon Summer Music Tour as the opening act of four bands, leaving newfound fans wanting more. The bass lines jammed as the lead singer Matty Bishop belted out crowd favorites such as Lay Down the Law and Drama Queen. Despite a few technical difficulties due to broken guitar and bass strings, Switches played a seamless show, no doubt adding new admirers to their growing US fan base. Here is the song 'Drama Queen' from their album 'Lay Down the Law' which was released in March.


Solange Knowles Soldiers On With Tour Despite Broken Foot

If you are smart, you probably shouldn't mess Beyonce Knowles' younger sister. Solange Knowles broke her foot on June 1st, but continues to tour despite the grueling injury. Knowles will be promoting her album, in stores in late August, 'Sol-Angel and the Hadley St Dreams, with a show at Cleveland's House of Blues tomorrow.

While the broken foot will keep her from performing her signature dance moves, you will be able to hear tracks of the album that is sure to be a hit tomorrow. Produced by award winning artists 'The Neptunes', her album will feature special guests such as Q-Tip, Lamont Dozier, SoulShock & Karlin, Jack Splash, Lil Wayne, Boards of Canada, Bilal and Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry and Grammy winner Mark Ronson.

If you want to see what all the fuss is about and why all those big name acts are lining up to be on Solange's album, you should try to make it to her show tommorow night. If you can't make it to the show, you can catch the world premiere of her new song 'Art of Love' tonight on BET at 8:30 pm. The song is set for heavy rotation on VH1 next week and is sure be a summer hit.
