How to Tell if Your Room Has Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are no laughing matter, and even more importantly, they can cause major problems when your home, business, or room is infested with them. You will most often be wondering how to rid of the pests that keep biting you in your sleep away, and even though it sounds a lot harder than you would think, it’s actually quite easy to rid yourself of bedbugs.

In this guide, we’ll give you some signs your room has bed bugs, and teach you how to check and treat for them.

Are They Visible?

While bed bugs are actually visible to the naked eye, but a lot of people don’t actually know what one truly looks like. In order to find out, you will notice that bed bug bites are pretty similar to mosquito bites (or other non-venomous spider bites). And what’s worse, some people don’t even have any reaction at all when they’re bitten.

The DIY Checklist

When you’re looking for bed bugs, you may want to look really closely in places like headboards, or beside your end tables on your mattress, under the actual crevice seams of the mattress itself, and even in wallpaper, paneling, and corners If you find a crevice or small location where someone sleeps nearby, you may even see bedbugs appear there.

What do Bed Bugs Look Like?

Bed bugs are generally a light auburn brown color and are literally the size of a seed from an apple. They have no wings, so they can’t fly, and they become engorged and swollen when they have fed. They’ll usually appear to be a brighter red color after drinking blood. They may not be reddish-brown for a matter of a few days.

When you are looking for eggs, you will notice that they’re usually laid in a small cluster about a millimeter in length, which isn’t very big at all. Not only that, but the smaller adolescent and youth bedbugs are generally harder to spot because they’re in a more immature stage. However, they do like to hang out around where you sleep, and multiple bedbugs from the youth to the adult will actually cause them to cluster together.

How to Rid Yourself of Them

There are numerous methods, one is to steam your mattress and bedding. Hot water is usually enough to kill bed bugs, and you may not be limited to just looking and eradicating them around your mattress, but even your box springs and wall trim near or behind your bed.

Conclusion

The best way is to actually look for bed bugs. You’ll see empty shells that exist around where you were laying and on your mattress. Other things you may notice are black stains in tiny dots clustered together (fecal matter left by the bed bug). They’re like wingless mosquitos, and are actually in the class like the flea, being a parasite that lives outside of their host, but feeds on them.
