Barrio Tacos in Cleveland Ohio

Barrio’s made-to-order tacos may be just as famous as Lebron James in Clevelanders’ eyes. It’s sure to be one of the first spots a local will recommend to a visitor in search of great meal. While there is an endless list of reasons for why people love this taco joint so much, the top three reasons most definitely are: the amazing quality of the food, the prices and the happy hour specials.

Barrio first made its entrance to the food scene in the hip Tremont neighborhood, just outside of downtown. The slogan is “tacos + tequila + whiskey” and it’s not hard to see why, these are definitely their top sellers and for good reason.

They offer a great variety of options to build your taco for $3. For meat, they have chicken, beef, steak, chorizo, tofu and more! They have different cheeses and toppings, but the really impressive part of the menu is the choices for salsas and sauces. Some people love the “Pineapple Salsa” that’s sweet and mild, others love the “Salsa Roja” which is a bit hotter. The sauces range from the mild, “Cilantro Pesto” to the aptly named, “Carolina Reaper” which they say is, “HOT! HOT! HOT!”

They also offer tacos that are already made, if you don’t feel the need to make your own. The “Vegan Stoner” (flour soft shells, widow chips, peppers and onions, grilled portobello, corn salsa, herb vinaigrette) is a crowd favorite for $4, the “El Filadelfia” (flour soft shell, grilled steak, and portobello, peppers and onions, queso fresco, salsa verde, aioli) is a big seller as well and is also $4. In addition, they have a taco of the month created by their talented chefs. For appetizers, they offer chips and salsa, guac and queso. They offer different kinds of each and all range from $5 to $8.

Happy Hour at Barrio just might be the best time to go (if you can manage to snag a seat, that is). They offer it Monday through Friday, 4 pm – 7 pm in the bar area. It’s important to note that they do not extend the offers to seating outside of the bar. (So, definitely try to get their early so you can partake in all the fun without the wait!)

There are both food and drinks specials during Happy Hour. The margaritas are probably the highlight– they are just $4 and come in just about every flavor you can think of. The tacos are discounted by $1 during this time as well.

Overall, Barrio is a Cleveland must-see if there ever was one. Happy Hour is definitely the time to go, but make sure you have a plan and can arrive early. Even if you don’t go during that time, be prepared to wait, they are always busy it seems. This is the perfect place for going out after work or grabbing dinner with friends.
