Best Coffee Shops In Cleveland Ohio – Top Places to Grab a Cup of Joe

Cleveland is a hard working city. In the morning we need our coffee and in thousands of households across the 216, nothing happens, nothing moves and no one speaks until the parents in the home have had their first cup of coffee. On the way to work, many of us stop for that first infusion of “joe” and upon arriving at work, no work is even thought about being looked at until that first stop in the cafeteria for that cup of coffee. Even if we bring in our coffee, we must first consume it all before we have a chance at being productive.

Some of us prefer our coffee at home, fresh brewed in traditional machines or a Keurig. Others like Mike only will have coffee at his favorite coffee shop and have no issues paying $5 or more per cup. Then you have the gas station folks who grab their joe at the pump in a 64 oz mug. Regardless of where you like to grab your coffee, me and Abby checked out numerous coffee shops in the city and came up with The Best Coffee in Cleveland list. When we were finished, our selections reflected the diversity of Cleveland and the United States. Thiswas very hard because there are so many places Clevelanders grab their coffee. In case we missed your place, email us and I will make sure Mike will buy your next cup.

Phoenix Coffee Company

A Cleveland-based company, Phoenix Coffee Company has been doing good business for over 27 years. The first time I ever went to Phoenix Coffee was 10 years ago. Mike and I were waiting for friends to go to a concert at The Grog Shop so we stopped in and had some coffee. The coffee was strong and the barista was very pleasant. Since then, I have stopped in whenever I have had time and grabbed a cup or two depending on if I was with coworkers. My favorite location is the one on East 9th Street. Great environment, friendly staff and great joe. You can order a bag online to brew at home if you like.

Rising Star Coffee Roasters

Is it me or is Cleveland becoming a hub for coffee shops? We may have to start calling Cleveland East Seattle or Seattle West Cleveland. Either way, Rising Star Coffee Roasters is another high quality Cleveland-based Coffee company that is making waves. Their leadership team led by their founder, Gary “Kim” Jenkins a retired rocket scientist has focused on providing excellent coffee at all of its locations. All of their coffee is kosher and they have a sterling list of blends available in the shop and online for delivery. Some of my favorites include the Peacemaker, Kanake, Illuminator and the Finca Idealista Honey. With many locations throughout the city, I am sure you will be able to enjoy a cup of Rising Star Coffee.

Six Shooter Coffee

This local Cleveland coffee roaster has two locations.  One on Waterloo and is referred to as their East location and the other located in the Flats West Bank.

Vintage Tea & Coffee

Located near Cleveland State, this coffee shop is dedicated to its craftsmanship.

Starbucks Coffee

The most recognizable name in coffee on earth, Starbucks for many is a religious obligation. With locations anywhere with electricity and water, Starbucks has created and maintained a legion of loyal fans with its tradtional blends like Sumatra, Pike Place, Veranda, Verona and many others along with frozen coffee and flavored drinks. Starbucks also has an impressive menu of sandwiches, pastries, salads and yogurt spreads. When I was going through my Starbucks phase, I would order a Venti Red Eye. These days, I simply grab a Tall Sumatra with sugra, cream with whipped cream on top. The Free Wi-Fi has many customers using Starbucks as an office and that has brought back the vibe of the coffee shop all across the city and country. You can take a bag home or grab some at your local grocer for your Keurig or traditional coffeemaker.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s has had some of the best coffee anywhere for decades. Some coffee snobs are scoffing at this pick, but every morning thousands of Clevelanders refuse to start the day with a coffee from McDonald’s and a glimpse of The Plain Dealer or USA Today. In addition to several coffee shop options, most people in the 216 opt for the regular coffee that is now sold across the planet at grocery stores for your coffeemaker and Keurig machine. At least twice a week I grab a medium coffee with three creams and six sugars in the coffee along with an Sausage Egg McMuffin with hash brown. Sometimes I upgrade to a large coffee and a Steak and Egg Bagel.

Speedway Gas Station

If you throw a rock in most neighborhoods outside your window, you are sure to hit a Speedway Gas Station. While many locations do not have free internet, soothing music and highly attractive baristas, Speedway does have decent coffee. At numerous locations, they have a nice variety of coffee, expresso and cappucino flavors and they are switched out every month. In addition. Speedway does have breakfast foods available and fresh fruit. Ironically, many of the things you love about the coffee shop are available at Speedway with the coffee shop prices

Dunkin Donuts

America does in fact run on Dunkin. For many decades, Dunkin Donuts has had the best donuts and coffee in the nation. Law Enforcement professionals everywhere can testify to this. With the rise of Starbucks and other coffee shop chains, some have forgot how good the joe at Dunkin Donuts. is. Over the last few years thanks to re-branding and revamping, Americans generally and Clevelanders have been re-introduced to Dunkin Donuts and found out, wow, the coffee here is still great! With additions of new drinks like expresso, Macchiato, cappucino, lattes and more, more people are filling up their drive-thrus every morning and when the big office meeting occur, there is plenty of Dunkin Donuts coffee to go along with the donuts that are ordered for staff. Sure they have coffee in the breakroom but nothing is too good for staff right? Seriously, Dunkin Donuts does have delicious coffee.
