I cannot think of anyone who does not like fried chicken. Over the years I have encountered many vegetarians and vegans who I have seen slip of few drumsticks and wings at company functions and picnics. I have also seen numerous health enthusiasts that preach the gospel of clean eating and living scarf down entire buckets of chicken. Disregard the fact that I have been guilty of offering said buckets of chicken and have contributed to previously mentioned back-sliding. The point is in Cleveland, no one is immune from the allure of crispy, golden, juicy fried chicken fresh out of the grease.
Some of us like hot sauce on our chicken. Others love BBQ sauce and Tabasco sauce on their bird. There are many fantastic restaurants where you can have chicken and waffles in Cleveland for breakfast, lunch and dinner and drown your chicken in maple syrup. The best places have chicken so good that you do not need to put anything on it. Cleveland, Ohio is blessed with an litany of venues where you can enjoy high quality fried chicken. Mike and I are fortunate to have been given this assignment and I am ducking and dodging my personal trainer who has told me to reduce my fried chicken intake. Jamie still has not forgiven me for my last relapse on donuts. Oh well.
Sam Sylk’s Chicken and Fish
One of Cleveland’s most beloved radio personalities, Sam Sylk has opened up one of the city’s best establishments. I do not know what is in the recipe, but every week I stop by for the chicken and fish. The Sunday 2 piece special for $1.29 breathes life into the eastside of town and has for quite some time.

One of the Cleveland’s top Soul Food destinations, Southern Cafe has many classic southern entrees such as Red Velvet Chicken and Waffles. Fried chicken fans on the west side flock every week to Southern Cafe and their weekend brunch is one of the best attended in Lakewood. That is saying a mouthful.

Zanzibar Soul Fusion
Shaker Square has a sterling reputation for its restaurants and Zanzibar has been able to live up to and exceed the area’s expectations for quality and service. That being said, Zanzibar’s fried chicken is scrumptious. Pair it with a golden waffle and you are well on your way to the gym to burn the pounds off in the morning.
