How Should You Wash Your Yoga Apparel So It Lasts Longer

Everyone should want to look and feel great in their yoga gear. You should also want to make sure you’re washing your gear the best way possible. Your yoga clothes may fade and get balls of fuzz eventually, but you can prolong those things from happening if you wash them properly. Read below to see how to keep your yoga gear in great condition and ready to go when you hit that yoga mat.

Wear & Wash

One of the most important things you should be doing is washing your yoga clothes each time you wear them. Tight fitting clothes love bacteria and collect yeast spores from your skin. You don’t want that stuff to get comfortable on your yoga gear.

Another thing you don’t want is an odor. There’s nothing worse than discovering an unpleasant smell as you’re suiting up. Let’s move on to how you should be washing your yoga clothes.

Don’t Mix With Other Clothes

There would be a few benefits if you stick to the usual color load and white load, but that’s not an option in this case. Wash your yoga clothes alone or with similar fabrics.

You would be inviting lint from the other fabrics if you decide to mix the wash and that would result in lint balls on your yoga clothes.

The Wash & The Dry

Before you throw your yoga gear in the wash, turn them inside out. Wash them on the gentle cycle along with a not so aggressive final spin.

As far as washing powder, you don’t need a lot. The more washing powder you use on your yoga clothes, the better chance you have to actually trap bacteria and odor in them. They can also end up sticky and stiff, but I guess that’s a good thing if you want your yoga pants to stand up on their own.

Too much of anything ends up being bad. You can’t drown your salad in ranch and expect it to taste good, but that’s no knock to anyone who eats their salad with a whole bottle of ranch.

Lastly, don’t throw your yoga clothes in the dryer. Air dry them away from direct heat. I know it would be great to just dry them quicker by letting the sun hit them, but not in this case.

Additional Tips

You may or may not already be using the right washing powder. Before you pick up more washing powder, do some research to see if what you’ve been getting is good for your yoga clothes. If not, find what’s best for you by looking online or asking a representative at the store.

Another helpful tip is that It’s probably best to avoid using fabric softener. Fabric softeners provide a softer feel for your clothing, but they can do harm to your yoga clothes. They ruin the wicking ability of your yoga gear and take away their great qualities.

Take care of your yoga clothes (like the ones you got from omandah.com) and keep them in the great condition they deserve to be in. Keep up the great yoga.
