Do you have an old wedding dress stuffed in your closet that you are thinking about dragging out for your daughter’s wedding? Maybe you are thinking about buying a used dressed for the event. Whatever the situation is, there is a good chance that the dress in question is going to need some tender, love, and care before it is restored back to health. Perhaps, you just dropped a bunch of money on a new dress and are looking to preserve that dress until another special occasion brings it back out of the closet. Well, with the following tips, you will be able to do just that.

Protecting The Dress Before The Event

Not only do you need to protect your mother of the groom dresses after the big event, but you need to protect them before the big event. It is not like you are buying the dress the day before the event, so it will probably be hanging in the closet a number of days before the event arrives. This is why you need to change out the hangers immediately. Get rid of that old plastic hanger and switch to a padded one. In addition to this, you will want to store the dress in a cool, dry place. It might not even hurt to store the dress in some kind of plastic, protective cover if there is a good amount of time before the wedding. However, if the wedding is only days away then you probably won’t have to worry about the plastic cover, but you will still want to opt for the padded hanger.

Protecting The Dress After The Event

Once the event is over, you will want to make sure that you get the dress cleaned as soon as humanly possible. The day after the wedding would be the ideal time, but some experts say that you have at least a month before the condition of the dress is compromised. If the dress sustained any stains during the wedding, you will want to rush the cleaning because those stains might set in and become permanent.

To Pre-Treat Or Not?

There is nothing more beautiful than the mother of the bride dresses tea length, however, these dresses like many others can be vulnerable to stains. When dresses get stained most women will immediately reach for the pre-treatment. Some experts might even recommend pre-treating, but the truth of the matter is that you should avoid pre-treatments at all cost. This is because pre-treating the dress might result in damage or could even cause a stain to set in, making the cleaning process all that more difficult.

After The Cleaning

Once the cleaning is done, you will want to make sure that you get the dress to a box right away. Store the box in a cool, dark, and dry location. You do not want the dress to be stored in musty, damp conditions as it will damage the dress and cause it to smell. If you ever get the dress back out for another occasion, you will want to make sure that you go through the exact same process before storing it again.
