Lago East Bank Cucina – Cleveland Ohio Italian Restaurant
First opening its doors in the historic Cleveland neighborhood of Tremont, Lago was brought to life by the notable chef, Fabio Salerno and his wife, Nicole Salerno. The two created a restaurant that blended that traditional Italian style with a contemporary vibe that made it an instant hit.
After a six-year run at the Tremont, an opportunity to move to developing Flats East Bank presented itself and the rest is history. Lago has been on the East Bank for over five years now. Keeping with the atmosphere they crafted in the Tremont location, they made the new Flats location that was the key restaurant in the new aloft hotel, just as modern and sleek but still serving all the traditional dishes fans knew and loved.
Since the restaurant is located in the lobby of a hotel, it is loved and adored by both travelers and Clevelanders alike. People love the late hours, delicious dishes and the great service. The only thing most people wished was different: the cost.
Lago is open Sunday through Thursday 11 am to 1:30 am and on Friday and Saturday they are open 11 am 2:30 am. Whether you are looking for a great brunch spot or a place for a late-night snack, Lago is open!
For food, people come for the meatballs and calamari. The “Salerno Family Meatballs” (beef, veal, pork, simple tomato sauce, parmesan) are a crowd favorite. Another popular section of the menu is the pizza. They offer multiple kinds of pizzas: the “Dominic Pizza” (beef short rib, caramelized onion, peppadew, marinara, provolone), the “Sofia Pizza” (cremini, shiitake + oyster mushrooms, fontina, taleggio, arugula, truffle oil), the “Luca Pizza” (meatball, marinara, banana pepper, provolone) and of course, a “Classico Pizza” (marinara, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil).
Other traditional Italian dishes include the “Tortelloni” (veal stuffed, prosciutto, sweet pea, parmesan cream), the “Cavatelli” (basil pesto cream sauce, tomato, fresh mozzarella, pine nut), the “Rigatoni” (sweet sausage, fennel, kale, cherry tomato, aglio e olio) and so much more!
While the prices at Lago can be a bit on the steeper side, it is actually a great place to get some Happy Hour deals! They offer everything from $2 Bud, Bud Light, Miller Lite bottles to their “Popcorn Puttanesca” (white wine, garlic, parsley, butter). They have a nice mix of drinks and foods on the Happy Hour menu so you can make the most of your experience. Happy Hour runs from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm Monday through Friday at the bar only.
Overall, if you plan strategically and go for Happy Hour you can get some great eats at a great price all the while enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of the Flats East Bank, you’ll be within walking distance to the water and everything the Bank has to offer.
